Qualifying Criteria  

• Grade 11 or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years working as Shaft Timberman / Shafts man
• DMR Onsetter Certificate
• Blasting Certificate / Rock Breaking with blasting module
• English language proficiency
• First Aid certificate
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• South African Citizenship
• Clear Criminal Record

Responsibilities :

• Shall be responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of construction work in the shaft by providing a service to the engineering concerning drilling, safe handling/side and foot walls barring in all traveling ways and all winzes, substations, declines, etc and to do general civil construction and repairs.
• Shaft exams and Shaft Repairs
• Work shifts and overtime as per company needs
• Conduct risk assessments and identify all hazards within working place.
• Oversee and maintain good housekeeping
• Receiving and control of explosives (including old explosives)
• Blasting in areas of responsibility. Applicable experience required.
• Slinging of material.
• Assist in ad hoc duties when and where required.
• Always take instructions from the supervisor(s) responsible for the shift
• Conduct all work according to required standards and specifications
• Adhere to MHSA standards & Gold1 Group’s safety motto : “Nothing is so important that it cannot be done safely”
