Job Description

• We are seeking an experienced Principal Piping Designer to provide technical leadership on a large-scale mining project. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity based in Johannesburg, with occasional site travel fully covered by the company.
• Contract Type: Fixed-term contract (2+ years)

Qualifications:

• Essential: National Diploma, BTech, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Design, or a related field
• Desirable: Training in risk management or quality

Requirements:

• 15+ years of relevant piping design experience
• Mining project experience (mandatory)
• EPCM experience (mandatory)
• Proficiency in 3D design tools (e.g., E3D, PDMS, SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D)
• Strong knowledge of piping layout, routing, isometric extraction, and clash detection
• Experience on PGM concentrator, smelter, or underground mining projects (distinct advantage)

Responsibilities:

• Lead piping design activities for mining projects
• Prepare and review piping layouts, isometrics, and 3D models
• Ensure adherence to engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications
• Support standardization of piping drawings and document templates
• Participate in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews
• Review and check work done by other designers
• Coordinate with piping engineers and other disciplines to ensure project success
