About the Role

Based in the Johannesburg hub, this role focuses on the data-driven optimization of web applications for a high-growth tech environment. Leveraging AWS and ServiceNow for deployment and incident tracking, the developer ensures strict compliance with software development life cycle (SDLC) protocols. Their role is critical for mitigating operational risk by ensuring code reliability and leveraging data to enhance the user experience for thousands of active learners.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

  • This role is for an experienced and ambitious front-end developer who can progress the quality of our websites, landing pages, and online and on-site coding bootcamp products.
  • A key responsibility of the role is to ensure that our website and digital assets better convert leads into satisfied students and customers. In addition, the role will oversee the user experience of our online student portal and how students interact with our mentors and teaching assistants at scale to improve the quality of progression for thousands of students seeking to transition into a career in tech.
  • The front-end developer will also ensure that landing pages are high speed and mobile optimised for our paid media campaigns and SEO optimised to scale organic impressions. 
  • In this role, you will work cross functionally with Product, Marketing and the various specialists in the Engineering team. We are looking for committed individuals who can impress us with their skills, ambition and ability to launch and drive their own projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creating the structure, template or layouts of new projects using frameworks and libraries like Bootstrap, Angular, Ember, React, Vue, Django, Jquery and material design
  • Creating dynamic page layouts based on api information
  • Developing responsive, mobile-first web applications and PWAs
  • Cross browser support for all modern browsers
  • Implementing basic SEO
  • Identifying and suggesting user experience improvements
  • Provide mentorship to peers and team members
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the teams continuous upskilling

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum

  • Relevant qualifications
  • 3+ years experience in a front-end role using the following:
  • HTML / HTML5
  • SCSS / CSS3
  • jQuery / Javascript
  • Bootstrap 3 / 4
  • React
  • Ability to transform designs (Photoshop XD, Sketch, Figma  etc) into flawless cross-device implementations
  • Understanding of SEO principles, web accessibility, and technical writing (bonus)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (bonus)
  • Good understanding of web standards
  • Good understanding of site performance and site optimisation
  • Good understanding of Git and versions control
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Fast learner enthusiastic to train on new stacks/technologies 
  • A problem-solving and positive attitude
  • Start-up mentality and the desire to see HyperionDev succeed
  • An interest in the future of education and online learning
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

  • Web Analytics / Google Analytics

  • Webpack / Gulp / Grunt
  • Experience in template languages, Django, Python, etc. 
  • Prior tech startup experience in a high-growth and ambitious environment
  • Worked on SEO, CSS and website optimization projects

A degree in Information Technology or a related field is required, alongside a strong portfolio of complex digital projects. Advancement leads to Solutions Architect or Technical Director roles for those who master full-stack development. Gaining expertise in AI integration and digital product strategy through specialized workshops can facilitate global mobility and senior leadership opportunities in international software firms.

Salary & Financial Insight
