Head Of Clinical Unit – Obstetrics And Gynaecology needed at Gauteng Department of Health

Requirements :

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery plus Appropriate qualification (Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or related sub-specialty).
• Registration certificate with HPCSA, plus 3 years’ experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in General Surgery. HPCSA current registration (2025/2026)) (annual registration card).

Knowledge, Competencies:

• Must have a strong record of clinical governance; clinical expertise; surgical skill; training and teaching at both under- and post-graduate levels. Publication record will be an added advantage.
• Must have good interpersonal, leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Possess sound knowledge of Human Resources Management, budgeting and information management. Knowledge of relevant Health and Public Service legislation, regulations and policies including medical ethics.
• Have the ability to evaluate new technologies and decide on the cost-effective implementation thereof.

Duties :

• Effective overall management of the surgical unit. Assess and ensure good quality clinical service delivery by: development and implementation of guidelines; providing training and support to students, medical interns, community service doctors, nursing staff, medical officers and specialists in the unit. Management and control of equipment.
• Optimize use of Human and other resources. Participate in relevant hospital and management committees. Encourage and support relevant research and publications.
• Contribute to electronic databases for research purposes. Strategize and implement outreach programmes. Provide after hour specialist services.
