• The role of the Bryte Farming Underwriter (Centre of Excellence Farming Quoting Team) is to analyse and underwrite new business effectively within delegated authority limits to achieve agreed levels of underwriting performance by providing technical underwriting support and assistance. To provide high quality service and solutions to brokers and customers to ensure business retention and profitable growth. To provide effective qualitative underwriting and to demonstrate specialized product knowledge and to be a mentor to Junior Underwriting technicians

Requirements
Key Tasks & Accountabilities

• Perform new business quotations within agreed service level agreements
• Perform screening of new business quote requests according to set guidelines
• Achieve agreed new business conversion ratios
• Perform reinsurance calculations and referrals thereafter
• Achieve targeted underwriting profit by assistance and performance of underwriting skills by underwriting medium to high complexity risks
• Growth of business
• Contribute to proposition development
• Provide qualitative service levels to internal and external stake holders, Treat Customers Fairly.
• Teamwork

Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12
• Minimum of 3 years technical expertise in underwriting commercial farming risks,
• FAIS compliant, 60 credits
• Must have RE
• Local languages, including Afrikaans a pre-requisite for the role (due to the nature of the business involved)
• Experience with TIA system an added advantage

Knowledge

• Sound understanding and knowledge of South African Insurance/re-insurance market
• Sound knowledge of how to optimise underwriting performance at a policy and portfolio level
• Knowledge and understanding of farmers business
• Sound knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements
• Expert technical knowledge and understanding of underwriting principles
• Commercial, Financial and business acumen
