About the Role

This operational leader oversees production workflows and team performance to ensure the high-volume delivery of poultry products. Utilizing SAP for logistics and ServiceNow for incident management, the Team Leader ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and minimizes operational risk. Their impact is critical to maintaining production speed and data accuracy within the supply chain of one of South Africa’s largest food producers.

The role demands rigorous operational oversight, proactive risk management, disciplined staff leadership, and seamless communication to ensure compliance, efficiency, and the safeguarding of company standards and reputation and responsibility for the management and stock of the N.M.C.S department.

Qualifications: 

  • Degree/Diploma/ Certificate in Logistics/Warehouse/ Cold storage management. 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years logistics/ warehousing / cold storage, and stock control experience

​​The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • The daily and forward planning, coordinating, and execution of all customer orders and deliveries across all shifts
  • Alignment of all other functions (Receiving, Picking Store, Administration, Loading, Sales department, Transporters and Service Providers)   
  • Hands-on management style both in office and on the floor
  • Ensure FIFO principle applied when handling all stock movements
  • Retail delivery load planning and coordination with transporters to optimize turnaround time
  • Continuous communication with management/ superintendents
  • Written and verbal shift handover feedback and workload plans completed, signed off and discussed between shifts
  • Attendance Registers, Loading Schedules and shift feedbacks are reviewed at shift handover and discussed in morning management meetings
  • Final daily checks to be concluded on LN system after allocated, accounted for and signed off
  • Ensure all system issues pertaining to all functions elevated to systems poultry, resolved and reported to manager/superintendent on every occurrence
  • Adherence and practice strict stock control protocols including cycle counts, cold chain maintenance and pallet procedures
  • Handling of telephonic/ mailed customer queries, and claims
  • The effective and efficient planning and distribution of frozen product with adherence to all standards, requirements and procedures are met.
  • Continuous communication, planning and coordinating of vehicles with transporters 
  • Reporting and elevating of any delivery delays to manager, sales department and service provider if applicable (Telephonic and via mail)
  • Adherence and practice to all company risk management, food safety requirements and housekeeping protocols and practices – Individual and staff
  • Ensure housekeeping of all areas to the required standard at all times.
  • Ensure department is managed in accordance with GMP and GHP principles
  • Ensure all documentation required to adhere to the food safety system is implemented, verified and completed as per agreed standard
  • Ensure staff adheres to all legislative and company requirements
  • Ensure department is managed in such a manner that all business related risks are identified and pro-actively eliminated
  • Ensure subordinates adhere to company policies and procedures in order to minimize the business risks
  • Full start up and shut down procedures of department is practiced and adhered to
  • Ensure department inspection findings are reported and addressed immediately
  • Ensure material handling equipment breakdown is investigated, reported and service provider contacted to carry out repairs. Notify manager/superintendent
  • Ensure all control documentation; files checked and signed off daily. Inform manager/superintendent of any discrepancies
  • Absenteeism in critical areas is filled in conjunction with skills matrix and approval of superintendent/manager. Ensure sufficient staff is available on every shift to meet workload requirements
  • Ensure all staff at their work station at start of shift and off work station when all work completed
  • Ensure all staff dressed in the required PPE and all clothing baskets clean and neatly hung on rails in basket room
  • Planning and arranging of staff for any overtime duties and transport if and when required
  • Ensure staff training programme in place for (Multi – Tasking) – Key core positions
  • Ensure the identifying of suitable staff for ‘Succession Planning” for key positions within the N.M.C.S Department and the continuous training of such individuals
  • Ensure new employees have the correct induction prior starting work including all safety and risk control aspects of department and their job
  • To take required disciplinary action if and when required and carried out as per company standards and statutory requirements
  • Ensure 20 keys programme is promoted, enforced and practiced in department. Management and update of MBA boards
  • Planning and set up of staff to carry out job functions and to check once completed to ensure to the required standard
  • Timeously attending to written and telephonic queries
  • Timeously raising of non-conformances (NCR’s) including completion of any raised against department
  • Any weekly reports/ requirements printed /mailed timeously.
  • Ensure sanitisation of vehicles prior loading
  • Provide suggestions for improvement
  • Ensure proper and professional communication towards fellow logistics employees, County Fair and Astral employees, customers and suppliers
  • To take responsibility to promote any business changes to subordinates to ensure the livelihood and well-being of the company

The successful candidate meet the following requirements: 

  • Computer literate
  • MS Excel on intermediate level
  • Excellent interpersonal skill
  • The candidate will be required to be highly self-motivated and motivational, pro-active by nature/ forward thinker, strong organizational skills, strong managerial and leadership skills ,multi-tasking abilities and flexible, ability to work effectively on own as well as part of a team and with the ability to meet pressurized deadlines and maintain strict attention to detail.
  • Shift work and able to work in a cold storage environment
