The Appointee should:
- CoM Advanced Survey or CoM Advanced Evaluation or Mining related qualification (e.g., Shift boss CoC)
- At least 3 years’ relevant experience.
- Medically fit to work in the specific business area
- Clear security screening record.
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Grade 12

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and scheduling services Organise and prioritise scheduling requirements to ensure effective service delivery Collect integrated geological and technical data necessary to conduct effective design and scheduling for the shaft Validate data by liaising with the Senior Design & Scheduler, Shaft Planner, Mine Planning Engineer and operational stakeholders Analyse and interpret planning data and design a shaft schedule in order to meet production requirements within the shaft Compile activity scheduling and production profiles Design digital terrain models Design, customise and utilise mine layout and rock engineering designs in compliance to safety and legal standards Formulate and implement alternate mine layouts and schedules Liaise with the Mine Design & Scheduler regarding changes in shaft schedules, consult with the Shaft Planner and Mine Planning Engineer, and accurately update shaft schedules Incorporate strategy changes with regard to mining methods, technology and methodology into designs and schedules for the shaft Update shaft schedules in line with changes in production targets
- Effective administration of necessary systems Ensure the accuracy of design and scheduling data captured on Surpac Maintain planning software systems through continuous updating of data on systems, ensuring data availability and integrity Test and implement software enhancement and support systems for design and scheduling Adhere to system administration requirements Implement and improve on new and existing systems and procedures
- Provide ad hoc technical input to Strategic Planning and operations Compile base case scenarios and different trade-off studies related to the shaft as input into feasibility studies Compile and present a two year budget schedule, and LTP schedule for the shaft, and deliver for sign off Update Base LTP based on changes within mining and operations Compile an optimised budget (Base LTP) for the shaft after changes and updates have been made Proactively identify production target compromising conditions, detailing the impact of those as input into managerial decision making and problem solving Conduct quarterly risk assessments to identify shortfalls related to budget predictions and actuals for the shaft Drive innovations in costs savings Implement the Six Sigma methodology to enhance mining efficiency
- Stakeholder Relations Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally. Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders. Resolve or escalate unresolved stakeholder queries and assist with problem solving Participate in the optimisation of the LTP through regular discussions with stakeholders across disciplines Build effective relationships through mutual respect and two way communication Identify potential conflict situations and minimise the implications.
- Financial Management Assist in managing the finances of the department to achieve Organisational objectives. Design and schedule Capital Projects Working Cost Budgets: Adhering to budgeting parameters for the department in line with business requirements and financial objectives. Formulating monthly and annual budgets. Cost Savings: Leading and drive cost saving and cash conservation initiatives.
- Building a values-based organisational culture Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment such as the BeQ.
- ESG Compliance Align to international responsible mining principles. SA Gold Operations: Align to Work Gold Council (WGC) responsible mining principles. SA PGM Operations: Enhance Together for Sustainability (eTfS) initiative.
- SHE Compliance Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment. Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks. Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. Comply with organisational Best practices, mine design criteria, scheduling parameters and modifying factors to ensure effective operational execution of the strategic planning function Participate in improvement initiatives that serve to eliminate fatalities, serious disability and lost time injuries (zero harm) Attend all required safety meetings Monitor area for potential risks and take appropriate action to prevent risks Adhere to safe work procedures and PPE requirements SHE Management: Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department. Quality Management System (QMS): Approve department’s documents. Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System.
