Head of Clinical Unit (Anaesthesiology) Job at Gauteng Department of Health

Requirements :

• MBChB or equivalent qualification.
• MMed (Anaes) or equivalent qualification.
• Proof of registration with the HPCSA as an independent specialist.
• A minimum of five years’ experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Specialist in Anaesthesiology.
• A minimum three years’ experience in teaching and research at an academic institution.
• Demonstrable research track record including supervision of postgraduate research.
• Knowledge Skills Training and Competencies required at experienced specialist level.
• Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Excellent team player. Strong record of clinical expertise, clinical governance, research, teaching and training at under and postgraduate levels. Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to supervise clinical training and teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and fellowship levels. Knowledge in Anaesthesiology including provision of direct clinical care, supervision and mentoring of subordinates.

Duties :

• The post requires the incumbent to provide and/or supervise clinical care of patients at a level appropriate to the service platform; teach and examine pre-graduate and post-graduate students in appropriate aspects of Clinical Unit; initiate and participate in research activities and publications in accordance with Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University School of Medicine plans; manage and take care of patients within the domain of the tertiary hospital as well as at other cluster hospitals; manage and perform required administrative and academic duties in support of and coordinated with the Head of Department; support dissemination and implementation of policies, protocols and clinical guidelines aligned with national norms and standards.
• Inherent requirement of the job: The successful incumbent will be required to perform commuted overtime in the Department of Anaesthesiology.
