Social Media Official (Warrant Officer) needed at South African Police Service

Component: Corporate Communication and Liaison, Publication & Broadcast Communication: Broadcast, Head Office, Pretoria

Generic Requirements: 

• Applicants must display competency in the post-specific core functions of the post; 
• Be fluent in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English; 
• Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) recorded on the National Learner Record Database on NQF level 4; 
• Must be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s license; 
• Be a South African Citizen; 
• Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal / departmental cases pending; 
• Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service; 
• Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification; 
• Applicants must also be computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, have interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills; 
• Relevant courses in the field of the post will serve as an added advantage; 
• Be able to work under pressure as well as extended hours.  

Additional Post Requirements: 

• Be in possession of a three (3) year Diploma or Degree (accredited by SAQA on NQF level 6 or higher) in Marketing / Communication / Journalism / Film and Television / Media Relations / Public Relations / Graphic Design / Motion Picture or related field, 
• A demonstrable experience in the field of the post will be an added advantage 
• Broad understanding of media platforms and mediums; 
• understanding of paid social media; 
• Attention to details is essential; 
• Organised with problem solving abilities; 
• Strategic thinking and tactical implementation; 
• Ability to work effectively in a team.  

Core Functions: 

• Social Media production; 
• Develop compelling video and broadcast content for SAPS social media platforms WhatsApp channel, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok; 
• Work closely with Social Media team to drive social media campaigns; 
• Ensure development of and execution of creative strategies to increase engagement, followers, and brand awareness. Collaborate with the publication and broadcast team to brainstorm and implement innovative campaigns for awareness initiatives on existing platforms; 
• Attend events, record visuals, capture compelling photos and edit content and incidents for social media use and other broadcast related outputs; 
• To edit professional broadcast quality content recorded by the SAPS Publications and Broadcast Communication used for transmission social media, or for training and information dissemination; 
• Follow social media channels for trends and opportunities to engage with our audience. Assist with live coverage of SAPS events; 
• Analyse social media metrics and provide insights to optimize service delivery and assist operational planning.
