Generic Requirements: 

  • Applicants must display competency in the post-specific core functions of the post; 
  • Be fluent in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English; 
  • Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) recorded on the National Learner Record Database on NQF level 4; 
  • Must be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s license; 
  • Be a South African Citizen; 
  • Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal / departmental cases pending; 
  • Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service; 
  • Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification; 
  • Applicants must also be computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, have interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills; 
  • Relevant courses in the field of the post will serve as an added advantage; 
  • Be able to work under pressure as well as extended hours. 

Additional Post Requirements: 

  • Be in possession of a three (3) year Diploma or Degree (accredited by SAQA on NQF level 6 or higher) in Communication / Journalism/ Media Relations / Public Relations, plus a minimum period of three (3) years’ experience in the field of the post, of which two (2) should be on a level equal or comparable to Salary Level 9/10/11; 
  • Computer literacy, interpersonal, communication and organization skills, analytical, self-management and problem solving.  

Core Functions: 

  • Provide sound communication support to the NATJOC/NATJOINTS or special events, multi-disciplinary security and police operations and attend all meetings; 
  • Provide communication support to SAPS support divisions and components; 
  • Act as a media liaison officer for the SAPS; 
  • Draft and issue media statements on behalf of the SAPS; 
  • Draft Communication plans and implement the relevant plans from Operational Divisions as per National Instruction 5 of 2017; 
  • Provide Media Relations support at the JCPS Cluster and any other related communication support; 
  • Provide proactive and reactive media statements and media invitations for the NATJOINTS and NATJOC; 
  • Ensure the compilation of proactive and reactive media statement for multi-disciplinary security and police operations; 
  • Ensure media coverage for JCPS Cluster Briefings and ensure attendance of media coverage; 
  •  Ensure the meetings of attendance of Meetings as scheduled by the JCPS Cluster and provide the necessary information related to the SAPS to the Cluster Meetings; 
  • Ensure relevant response relating to any communication crisis related to the SAPS to the Media.
