Generic Requirements: 

  • Applicants must display competency in the post-specific core functions of the post; 
  • Be fluent in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English; 
  • Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) recorded on the National Learner Record Database on NQF level 4; 
  • Must be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s license; 
  • Be a South African Citizen; 
  • Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal / departmental cases pending; 
  • Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service; 
  • Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification; 
  • Applicants must also be computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, have interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills; 
  • Relevant courses in the field of the post will serve as an added advantage; 
  • Be able to work under pressure as well as extended hours. 

Additional Post Requirements: 

  • Be in possession of a three (3) year Diploma or Degree (accredited by SAQA on NQF level 6 or higher) in Communication / Journalism / Media Relations / Public Relations; 
  • Must have Computer literacy, interpersonal, communication and organization skills, analytical, self-management and problem solving skills; 
  • Report writing and presentation. 

 ​​​​​​​Core Functions: 

  • Oversee and Monitor print and electronic media to identify newsworthy media articles related to SAPS and to compile daily Media Headlines, Early media monitoring reports, Provincial Media Monitoring and Late Media Monitoring Reports; 
  • Oversee and compile Media Monitoring reports and presentations for the National Commissioner, NATJOINTS, JOCOM, Secretariat if and when requested on topical issues or trending media issues; 
  • Ensure that a database are created and updated on all prominent issues trending in the Media; 
  • Administer administrative and logistical functions. 
  • Administer rotational duties for weekend/ public holiday for media monitoring duties.
