Generic Requirements: 

  • Applicants must display competency in the post-specific core functions of the post; 
  • Be fluent in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English; 
  • Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) recorded on the National Learner Record Database on NQF level 4; 
  • Must be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s license; 
  • Be a South African Citizen; 
  • Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal / departmental cases pending; 
  • Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service; 
  • Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification; 
  • Applicants must also be computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, have interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills; 
  • Relevant courses in the field of the post will serve as an added advantage; 
  • Be able to work under pressure as well as extended hours. 

Additional Post Requirements: 

  • Be in possession of a three (3) year Diploma or Degree (accredited by SAQA on NQF level 6 or higher) in Social Media or other relevant Qualification in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Film and Television, Media Relations, Public Relations, Graphic Design, motion picture or related field, plus a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a communication role, marketing / advertising or Public relations; 
  • Broad understanding of media platforms; 
  • Organised with problem solving abilities; 
  • Strategic thinking and tactical implementation; 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.  

Core Functions: 

  • Oversee the Social Media management; 
  • Oversee and respond to enquiries and complaints on social media platforms; 
  • Oversee and monitor the developing compelling content for SAPS social media platforms WhatsApp channel, X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube; 
  • Drive social media campaigns; 
  • Ensure development and execute creative strategies to increase engagement, followers and brand awareness; 
  • Collaborate with the marketing and media team to brainstorm and implement innovative marketing campaigns for awareness initiatives; 
  • Oversee the events and incidents to capture compelling photos and video for social media use; 
  • Monitor social media channel for trends and opportunities to engage with our audience;
  • Assist with live coverage of SAPS events; 
  • Analyse social media metrics and provide insights to optimize service delivery and assist operational planning.
