Minimum Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- N Dip: Safety Management (Essential/Minimum)
- Certificate First Line Management (Essential/Minimum)
- B Tech (Relevant) (Recommended/Desirable)
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-5 years Relevant safety operations within a heavy industry, mining and production environment (Essential/Minimum) Operational
REQUIREMENTS:
- Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
- Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
- MHS Act Reg 2.17.1 (Safety Officer) (Essential/Minimum)
Duties & Responsibilities
Compliance, Governance and Assurance
- Adhere to relevant legislation and Business Unit (BU) requirements
- Manage risk by assessing liabilities, reporting and monitoring standards and attending to problems
- Create awareness, conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) interventions and address unsafe practices in timeous manner
- Implement and maintain an audit structure
- Conduct internal and external safety and environmental audits
- Compile statistical and legal monthly reports
- Ensure adherence to International Organisational Standards (ISO)/Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements (Management of Change)
Customer and Client Relationship Management
- Maintain good relationships with customers
- Understand customer needs and provide solutions
- Respond to customer queries as per Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
- Address all customer complaints as per service management policies and guidelines
- Continuously endeavour to improve service delivery
- Ensure customer satisfaction is maintained within the service management targets
- Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Representative empowerment (mentoring and coaching)
- Influence BU safety culture through Visible Felt Leadership (VFL)
SHEC Operations
- Effective contractor management in terms of quality assurance
- Input into SHE induction material and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements
- Coach internal staff as per corporate programmes
- Facilitate and monitor compliance in terms of training requirements
- Provide an expert advisory service to line and Head, SHE and present statistical findings and performance
- Chair relevant SHE Representative meetings, when required
- Facilitate HIRA process
- Conduct inspections as per legislation
- Incident investigation process as per Chief Safety Officer instruction
- Assist in the evaluation of discipline-specific standards, principles and practice to enable planning, design and implementation of safe outcomes that support business strategy
- Provide specialist safety training and support, as per legislative requirements
- Ensure effective management of sphere of control in terms of geographical area
- Effectively manage interdepartmental relationships
- Timeous closure of Department of Mineral Resources and Department of Labour directives, governance regarding Business Unit non-conformance
- Facilitating incident investigations outside of sphere of control/responsibility

- Adhere to all health/safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis
- Appointment under section 74 and regulation 2.17.1 of the Mine Health and Safety Act
