Business Results

  • Responsible for the complete lifecycle management of all project streams within the programme – from conceptualisation, market assessment and investment case development through to implementation and performance management of all ‘live’ project streams
  • Develop fit-for-purpose go-to-market implementation plans for all approved project streams
  • Ensure that scenario planning; financial modelling & business case development for individual projects and the integrated programme is completed within the stipulated timeline
  • Managing the execution process of various projects within the designated environment
  • Ensure the consolidation of various business cases into a single and sound P&L for the Division
  • Manage the implementation of the business cases (once approved) and ensure alignment with the strategy
  • Take ownership of commercial results for all project streams and the overall programme and track performance against commercial projections, implementing continuous improvement initiatives to ensure the meeting or exceeding of projected milestones & objectives
  • Lead the design of business scaling & revenue growth strategies for the programme and individual project streams
  • Support Chief Officer: Financial Services as primary point of accountability for Fintech Transformation programme at all relevant internal & external forums

Programme Initiation

  • Ensure effective translation of integrated division strategy into individual project strategies
  • Scenario planning, including research and trend analysis for all projects within programme stream, aligned to integrated divisional & MTN SA strategy
  • Market analysis and assessment for each project stream – including best practice, trends and competitor analysis
  • Financial & commercial modelling; cost v. benefit analysis; cash flow forecasting and business plan development for each project stream, aligned to MTN SA project approval methodologies (various ‘gateway’ approvals before project ‘go live’
  • Support the designated division in delivering projects according to the area’s prioritisation and overall MTN SA prioritisation
  • Interpret and ensure compliance to all applicable regulation
  • Agree to and determine programme service levels and enhancements in conjunction with all the stakeholders
  • Undertake a feasibility study to ensure all programme options recommended are achievable
  • Create terms of reference for the programme which specify the objectives and scope for all projects, in alignment with internal customer expectations
  • Articulate and negotiate consensus on a final vision of the core programme goals from scoping the requirements of all stakeholders, including the project owners within the designated division

Programme Planning

  • Develop and maintain an integrated programme plan for the Programme Management area within the area to accomplish goals within constraints such as time, cost and agreed quality standards
  • Give input to the development of the Project Management Methodology and project standards, aligned to MTN strategy and business requirements, and in conjunction with stakeholders. Monitor the execution thereof
  • Develop and direct the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards where applicable for the project streams
  • Allocate project managers to various streams
  • Document the acceptance criteria for programme deliverables
  • Establish a clear communication plan for the various project streams
  • Provide input for the procurement of goods and services required to deliver the various projects
  • Consider the long term (1-2 years) implications of the programme outcome for the area from a broader perspective
  • Consider the impact of project outcomes on other areas of the business, as well as the interdependency of projects & other MTN units

Programme Execution

  • Allocate available resources to the various project streams, to ensure optimal use
  • Oversee project management of projects for the programme management area within the designated area. This includes project planning, scheduling, control, stakeholder management and change management
  • Continually review and evaluate project delivery for the various projects. Make recommendation for and execute changes in operations to ensure maximum effective service provision, keeping all stakeholders properly informed
  • Monitor and direct day-to-day operations for a number of projects to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed, that goals and objectives are met, and that projects are being delivered efficiently and effectively. Take corrective action as necessary
  • Monitor and keep abreast of technological, legal and operational changes that affect the activities and work processes of the various project streams. Make recommendation for and develop and carry out improvements to the program to meet changing mission parameters and requirements
  • Provide expertise in the process specificities of the delivery of numerous project streams
  • Ensure that proper methodologies of project management are applied in the area, given PMO guidelines
  • Implement programme evaluation tools and evaluate the effectiveness of each project stream
  • Manage project risks, and proactively liaise with project owners to alert for risks

Risk Management

  • Produce a risk plan to identify and mitigate project risks within each project stream, taking local conditions and competitor activity into account
  • Manage overall project portfolio risks, and proactively liaise with project owners to alert for risks

Analysis of data

  • Measure performance against calendar and highlighting delays of where potential issues arise
  • Recommend and or design and maintain a prioritization log for all queries / requests made to the Planning, Performance and Reporting environment
  • Update and upload tools for month-end for the analysis of data reviewing and reporting for all functional areas
  • Extract, define and interpret relevant information for determining past performance and/or projecting future probabilities
  • Use various software applications, models and tools to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports
  • Continually validate the definition of data against other sources to ensure that reports are interpreted correctly by users
  • Assess current data sources available and find new and additional data and make these available to analysts to support projects
  • Liaise with IS to gather all required support for data extraction for reporting purposes
  • Liaise with all the stakeholders to complete reporting and planning requirements.

Reporting of data

  • Develop various reporting toolkits and dashboards for performance planning, tracking and pro-active corrective measures and reporting input
  • Ensure completeness of all reporting requirements (Monthly, Quarterly, etc.)
  • Prepare and review presentation information and documents as per the agreed requirements
  • Develop data reporting toolkits and dashboards to facilitate performance tracking by all project and programme stakeholders
  • Ensure completeness of ad hoc requests and/or projects
  • Complete designs for reports and have these authorised before handing them over for development or continuing with developing them
  • Develop reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis
  • Perform data analysis on reports used by the department to identify the best source of input data.
  • Assist team members with the specification and design changes to existing reports
  • Prepare a variety of written correspondence, reports, procedures, directives, and other materials as required
  • Provide / ensure the provision of regular feedback on project status to the project owners
  • Ensure all project information is properly documented
  • Support Chief Officer: Financial Services with all reporting requirements for EXCO meetings and presentations

Problem Identification and Resolution

  • Proactively utilize project performance data to identify potential problems that could arise
  • Follow clear and linear procedures to diagnose and solve problems that are not always obvious, tailoring solutions to suit various problems
  • Take action to prevent the reoccurrence of problems.

Supplier & Partner Relationship Management

  • Identify external contractor needs and develop a purchasing plan to be integrated into overall Procurement plan
  • Assist in providing input to acquire external contractors as required, in line with HR policy
  • Monitor agreed SLA’s with contractors
  • Manage all external contractors hired to support projects managed by the Programme Manager in terms of performance and delivery on contract deadlines
  • Identify, acquire, and manage any partners required for successful delivery of the programme or project streams

Programme Budget Management

  • Develop and monitor the implementation of programme budgets
  • Oversee the financial well-being of process related cost items by analysing cost effectiveness and exercising cost controls
  • Prepare, submit, and justify budget enhancement requests to the respective stakeholders, as per delegation of authorities
  • Prepare programme and project budgets to include staffing and operational needs
  • Analyse project profitability
  • Monitor programme costs and recommend initiatives to optimize resources. Ensure cost effectiveness by maximising cost/ benefit rations
  • Identify areas where money is lost and seek ways to reduce expenditure

Qualifications
Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)

  • Minimum of 4-year tertiary qualification / MBA or Masters advantageous
  • Fluent in English and one other official South African language
  • Senior management track record of 5 years or more; with at least 3 years in relevant sector/ industry as per relevant role
  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise (understanding emerging markets advantageous)
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
  • Advantageous – Extensive business planning, financial modelling & investment case development experience
  • Advantageous – Extensive consulting and executive level stakeholder management experience
