Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post Basic Pharmacist’s Assistant Certificate.
  • Current registration with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a PBPA.
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience in a private hospital experience.
  • Retail experience is advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SAP.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Assist the Pharmacist with the preparation of a prescription, the selection, the labelling and supply of the medicine in an appropriate container following the interpretation and evaluation of the prescription by a pharmacist.
  • Compounding, manipulation or preparation of non-sterile or sterile medicine or scheduled substances according to a formula and standard operating procedure.
  • Package and re-package of medicine under the supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Accurately dispense stock to wards, discharged patients and prescriptions under the close supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Distribute and control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 2 medicines or unscheduled substances.
  • Sell over-the-counter medicines under the close supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Ensure all ward stock issues, retail scripts, TTO scripts and in-hospital scripts dispensed/picked/packed are signed off by a Pharmacist before handing it over to the patient, ward/unit or nursing staff member.
  • Conduct cycle counts in designated areas under the supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Complete stock reports, cyclical counts and stock audits timeously.
  • Receipt of stock as per standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure accurate capturing of stock on the approved system.
  • Liaise with Pharmaceutical procurement manager in head office as it relates to required stock for the hospital / facility.
  • Maintenance of minimum stock control (Materials replenishment Planning MRP).
  • Oversee the management and handling of cash (cash receipt and cash payment).
