Purpose of Job
- The purpose of this role is to successfully execute maintenance on laboratory equipment and provide expert assistance to the laboratory team.
Key Accountabilities
Functional / Technical:
- Ensure optimal maintenance of laboratory equipment, including implementation of maintenance strategies, troubleshooting, fault finding and repairing breakdowns.
- Coordination of external support to ensure timeous instrument calibration and services.
- Maintain appropriate levels of critical spares and consumables to reduce instrument downtime.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and/or requests with different priorities.
- Involved in site preparation and commissioning of new laboratory instruments.
- Coordinate MOC processes for lab projects, new instrument installation and general lab infrastructure changes.
- Assist Lab Managers to compile instrument maintenance budget and manage maintenance costs to ensure efficiency.
- Follow work procedures, policies, methods and instructions.
- Service provider management, including defining scope of work, facilitating PDA, issuing PTW and ensuring compliance to SHE and quality requirements.

Relationships, Teamwork & Collaboration:
- Customer relationship management, including attending Lab Morning meetings to give feedback on instrument maintenance status.
- Liaise with suppliers and external specialists regarding instrument maintenance.
- Work closely with Planning department to achieve maintenance targets.
- Track weekly and monthly performance and provide management with reports.
- Contribute suggestions to optimize equipment, systems and procedures.
Formal Education
- Matric/Grade 12 or N3 with Maths, Science and English (Must)
- National Diploma/ S4 (Instrumentation or Light Current) (Must)
Working Experience
- Minimum 3-4 years relevant maintenance experience (Must)
- Experience in laboratory equipment maintenance Must)
