Minimum Requirements    
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma Nursing (Essential/Minimum)

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 2-3 years  Essential general nursing experience. Recommended experience in primary health care and TB/HIV training and counselling.  (Essential/Minimum)    Operational

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
  • Reg: South African Nursing Council (Recommended/Desirable)

Duties & Responsibilities    
Administration and Support Services    

  • Monitor the storage and availability of medical records for identification of health issues and the provision of appropriate courses of treatment
  • Provide assistance with occupational health programmes and procedures
  • Process medical aid documentation, costs of private and benefit member’s treatment accounts and resolve employee queries

Best Practice and Knowledge Management    

  • Maintain internal/external professional networks
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards and programs
  • Operate within professional scope of practice
  • Ensure ethical and professional conduct
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation

Business Performance and Operations    

  • Coordinate and implement primary health care services
  • Conduct regular examinations e.g. blood pressure, urinalysis and physical examinations
  • Conduct nursing diagnosis, recommend or implement treatment where applicable
  • Advise patients on general health e.g. family planning, weighing and immunisation
  • Monitor the progress of patients and take appropriate action where necessary
  • Assist with the implementation of medical and hygiene procedures and codes of practice
  • Support in the monitoring of employee exposure to hazardous substances and undertake statutory and non-statutory health surveillance
  • Where required, report for standby duty and perform required emergency medical services and administer medicines

Compliance, Governance and Assurance    

  • Adhere to relevant Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) legislation, statutory requirements (e.g. Nursing Act, National Health Act etc.) and company specific policies and procedures
  • Implement effective primary health programmes for the management of health risks
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards and programs

Customer and Client Relationship Management    

  • Assist in the development of primary health services and processes for administrative, systems and record keeping
  • Assist in the evaluation of discipline-specific standards, principles and practice to enable planning and implementation of health programmes

Internal Business Processes    

  • Support occupational health nurse in the implementation of a medical surveillance programme (including periodic, annual pre-employment and exit medicals), occupational health programmes and relevant codes of practice to ensure compliance to all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Support with the management of occupational injuries and diseases
  • Ensure safe keeping of medical records in accordance with legislation and Company guidelines
  • Implement the Company’s Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/ Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and Tuberculosis (TB) programmes
  • Assist with the monitoring of TB and HIV transmissions
  • Perform HIV/AIDS counselling and create awareness
