- Deli Spices is seeking a dynamic, talented individual to join our Operations team in Cape Town.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS LEVEL
- Appropriate Supply Chain qualification
- At least 3 years’ experience in managing a dispatch operation.
- Experience in operating in Africa.
- SYSPRO working experience will be beneficial.
- Knowledge of the RTQA and relevant Road Safety regulations and requirements including R638 compliance for Vehicles.
- Competent in MS Word and MS Excel
- Working knowledge of transport fundamentals pertaining to volumetric calculations and route optimisation is essential.
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
- Responsible for the planning and control of all outbound logistics activities and resources in South Distribution Centre (SDC). Also, responsible for the management, via SLA’s, of all external service providers, including vehicle condition, branding and utilization – within the scope of the provided budget.
- This position is accountable for the delivery of excellent logistics services to customers including local, bulk, Retail and Africa.
Independence (Finance)
- Ensure adherence to budget set for the Distribution Centre South.
- Optimise fleet utilisation.
- Management of 3rd party service providers.
- Diesel Cost Management
- Manage labour cost.
- Maintain optimum vehicle utilisation and customer satisfaction.
- Lead daily team meetings with staff and 3rd party suppliers to review previous days’ challenges and the current days’ deliverables.
- Shared responsibility for opening and closing of the site daily.
- Ensure that 3rd party suppliers’ vehicles and dress code are befitting of a Deli Spices’ representative.
- Management Reporting and adherence to budget:
- Responsible for ensuring all logistics costs are within ratio to sales as required by the annual budget.
- Ensure all documentation required by internal and external customers are provided/obtained to assist with financial conclusion of transactions.
- Service delivery to external customers:
- Ensure fleet and personnel always adhere to Deli Spices code of conduct.
- Ensure accurate and relevant information are disclosed to all customers where required, including documentation.
- Planning and Control of transport activities:
- Responsible for route planning of all deliveries
- Responsible for planning of transport capacity
- Control of vehicle loading (inbound and outbound) and distribution capacity optimization
- Management of all courier transactions
- Management of 3rd party drivers and assistants with regards to timekeeping (including overtime), productivity and cash handling on vehicles.
Innovation
- Actively seek to optimise the distribution of product to the customers.
- Seek and propose new technology to streamline distribution processes to be inclusive of the digital landscape.
- Propose new systems for implementation i.t.o fleet management, route optimization, people and process
- Create, track, manage and report on relevant transport KPIs
- Update dispatch relevant dashboards
Customer Centricity
- Support Sales Team as internal customers with clear, accurate information on deliveries and expected arrivals.
- Support Sales Team with clear accurate communication to external customers, where required, to expedite the delivery process.
- To drive a culture of the “right stock, in the right place, at the right time”
- Manage drivers and delivery teams to meet a >98% OTIF
- Work with Warehouse, Procurement & Sales Teams to implement best practices that drive process improvements and efficiencies.
- Manage dispatches to countries outside of South Africa, including relevant documentation requirements, stock inspections, etc.
- Resolve queries swiftly.
- Ensure that redeliveries are managed in a proactive and cost-effective manner.
- Ensure that there is a cost-effective system in place to manage urgent and/or unplanned deliveries.
- Ensure a system is in place to proactively deal with potential customer returns.
- Service delivery to internal customers (Sales):
- Handle all queries with regards to deliveries
- Daily reporting on previous days customer service and highlighting service failures.
- Constant progress reporting on customer service
- Escalating issues preventing world class service to external customers
- Assist with all logistics requirements regarding Trade Shows and Exhibitions
- Managing the return of POD’s by all service providers back to the DC
People
- Align yourself to the performance driven culture through the implementation of performance management and talent management.
- Participate in development planning process.
- Align yourself to the Mane Code of Ethics.
- Align yourself to the Value System.
- Manage 3rd party suppliers and internal transport to ensure that stock is loaded and delivered per the required schedule for the day.
- Ensure an effective delivery plan is in place and managed between internal and 3rd party suppliers.
- Manage 3rd party suppliers to ensure PODs are handed over within a reasonable timeframe (target 48 hours)
- Ensure all required documentation (GRVs and PODs) are presented to the relevant stakeholders whenever required.

- Participate in Group wellness and CSR activity and utilize group resources in this regard.
