Purpose of Position:

  • To oversee the performance of multiple sections in the laboratory, managing the processes, operations and people to ensure operational goals are met and high-quality standards are maintained

Requirements:

  • Discipline specific Medical Technologist, Medical Technician (SMLTSA) or Medical Scientist (BSc Hons, MSc, PhD) qualification (Required), First-line management qualification/certification. (Required), Medical Technologist, Medical Technician (Chemical Pathology) or Medical Scientist (Clinical Biochemistry) HPCSA registration (Required)

Required Experience:

  • 3 years or more in a bench lead or equivalent senior role, with proven experience overseeing a bench section within a larger laboratory environment, including upholding high-quality standards, overseeing stock, reagents and expenses, ensuring the seamless operation of all section-related processes, and providing guidance and expertise to improve the team’s performance and growth.,
  • Advanced knowledge of financial management principles (budget management, reporting and cost analysis), Advanced knowledge of SANAS accreditation processes and procedures., Awareness of BCEA, Awareness of EEA, Awareness of LRA, General understanding of OSH Act, Intermediate Excel and Outlook skills, Knowledge of HPCSA regulations,
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of people management practices (including training, motivating and directing employees) to optimise workplace productivity and promote professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lab Manager with chairperson responsibilities during disciplinary enquiries as and when required, Compile and manage the budget for assigned sections to control expenses, ensure the correct allocation of funds, and drive efficiency, Compile monthly performance reports and send them to the Lab Manager, Conduct disciplinary investigations in collaboration with the People Partner when required,
  • Ensure alignment with Central Support strategies by coordinating the execution and overseeing the implementation of the relevant policies, initiatives and processes, Identify process improvement opportunities to streamline processes to enhance service quality and cost efficiency,
  • Maintain and drive a culture of superior customer experience within the team, Maintain and improve performance of team members in line with the NRL and the organisation’s objectives by identifying employee goals, defining performance measurement, providing constructive performance feedback, and appropriately addressing non-performance,
  • Maintain oversight of leave accumulations/balances in collaboration with the Lab Manager and ensure all Workday tasks are completed, Manage the assigned section employees and ensure a positive work environment and high-performing culture, Manage the operations of assigned sections in the lab to ensure alignment with operational goals,
  • Manage the quality and accreditation processes for assigned sections to ensure standards are maintained, Manage the recruitment and selection of the assigned section in collaboration with the Lab Manager and Bench Lead to ensure that Talent Acquisition and EE policies are adhered to, Mentor and coach leadership and business acumen skills to Bench Leads, Regularly communicate the operational goals and vision for the team and ensure the team understands the goal and standard at which tasks should be delivered
