  • The President Hotel in Bantry Bay is recruiting a Finance Head of Department (HOD). The Finance HOD will lead the financial function at the hotel, taking ownership of all accounting activities, financial reporting and compliance. This role requires a dynamic, forward-thinking professional who is well-versed in accounting standards and is committed to fostering an efficient and proactive finance team. The role demands a hands-on professional with a strong ability to deliver accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • The role requires a strong grounding in financial accounting controls and systems with a deep understanding in basic accounting functions. The knowledge and ability to interrogate and review financial results and reports is essential. Hospitality experience is an advantage but not essential.

Financial and Management Reporting & Compliance

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS for SMEs. Actioning and overseeing all accounting activities to ensure financial records are accurate and comply with hotel policies and regulations.
  • Reconcile balance sheets (by the 15th of the month), profit and loss statements and other key financial statements for review and reporting.
  • Supervise creditor and debtor accounts and ensure prompt follow-up on outstanding amounts Prepare reports for internal management and external auditors.
  • Income statement reporting by the 8th of the month .

Audit & Internal Controls

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of the annual external audit.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard the hotel’s assets and financial information.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties and adherence to accounting principles and practices.

Team Supervision & Development

  • Supervise accounting staff and provide training and support as needed.
  • Encourage professional development and ensure that team members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.

Accounting Systems and Controls

  • Keep the systems, software and data capture in line with latest technology and best market practice.

Requirements

  • Professional Accounting qualification
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a similar accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Sage, Accpac, Opera, or similar).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, and take part in the wellness activities of the hotel Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Problem-solving ability with a proactive attitude.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills and ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines.
