Job Purpose:

  • The Semi-Skilled Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems to ensure seamless operational performance. By performing basic maintenance tasks, troubleshooting minor issues, and assisting with system optimizations, this position helps to minimize downtime, enhance equipment reliability, and contribute to achieving production targets in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements

Minimum Education Required (Essential):

  • Matric

Minimum Education Required (Desirable):

  • Certificate in a Mechanical or Electrical trade

Minimum Experience Required:

  • 2 – 3 Years of Experience in a maintenance role, preferably in a food processing or industrial environment.

Skills:

  • Basic Knowledge of mechanical systems (e.g. Pumps, conveyors)
  • Familiarity with Electrical Systems, including motors and wiring (basic).
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to maintenance management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving equipment.
  • Comfortable working in noisy, cold and occasionally odorous environments

Other:

  • Ability to work in cold and wet conditions.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and overtime as required.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Advantageous)
  • Reliable own transport
  • Proficient in Afrikaans

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Assist in performing scheduled preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, including conveyors, motors, compressors, and HVAC systems.
  • Support troubleshooting and basic repairs of mechanical and electrical breakdowns.
  • Carry out general maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, cleaning, and replacement of simple machine components.
  • Help maintain refrigeration systems to support product quality.
  • Support the repair and servicing of hydraulic and pneumatic systems under supervision.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and assist in identifying and reporting hazards.
  • Ensure all work complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act).
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities for compliance and audit purposes.

Support & Optimization

  • Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment as directed.
  • Provide hands-on assistance during equipment operation to support production teams.
  • Suggest basic maintenance improvements to increase equipment reliability and efficiency
