Purpose of the role

  • Supports health, safety and environmental aspects at operational work level, to ensure compliance to legislation, FLSmidth HSE and client requirements.

Your responsibilities 
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure Company prescribed HSE KPI’s are met.
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
  • Ensure compliance to the clients Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Initiate, coordinate and manage all the safety, health & environmental assurance related tasks.
  • Maintain summary records of all Health &Safety equipment, certifications and equipment inspections.
  • Ensure that all relevant certificates including calibration records are kept up to date.
  • Ensure HSE training and inductions are completed.
  • Responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations and developing measures to assure employee safety and environmental compliance on client’s sites.
  • Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
  • Ensure that all incidents/accidents are investigated, documented and recommendations are communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Address all workplace injury compensation related matters followed up with the relevant appointed authority.
  • Advice on statutory, legal compliance and best practices and applications.
  • Promote HSE awareness amongst all employees.
  • Collaborate with client on all fire and emergency drills.
  • Coordinate/arrange medical surveillance for all employees as per client requirements.
  • Establish, implement and maintain a project specific SHE files as per client requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections in work area and ensure control measures are implemented in order to eliminate or mitigate the identified risks.
  • Proactively manage contractors and continually enforce compliance.
  • Continuous updating of contractor packs.
  • Preparing in advance safety files and contractor packs for upcoming projects.
  • Give the required support to execution team on ad hoc breakdowns.

What you bring

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • National Diploma/BTECH in Safety Management or equivalent qualification and/or experience.
  • SAMTRAC/COMSOC Course or equivalent qualification will be mandatory.
  • Must be registered with SACPCMP.
  • Must be experienced in the KBC Passport 360 web based HSE application.
  • 2 – 4 years’ working experience in an HSE environment
  • Sound knowledge of ISO 45001 & ISO 14 001
  • Ability to work overtime is essential.
  • Proven experience in Audits, Inspections, Risk Assessments & Controls, system management and safety document control
  • Strong organizing capabilities.
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to travel to support the FLSmidth sites.
  • Driver’s License is essential.
  • Experience in construction & the mining environment will be beneficial.
  • Should possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office essential.
  • Good administrative skills
