RESPONSIBILITIES:
Music Instruction & Curriculum Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum that aligns with Cambridge education standards.
- Teach music theory, history, and aural skills to scholars of various ages and skill levels.
- Provide vocal and instrumental instruction, ensuring scholars gain proficiency in their chosen areas.
- Foster a love for music by introducing scholars to different musical styles, cultures, and historical contexts.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods into music education.
Performance & Extracurricular Activities
- Direct and manage school choirs and ensembles, preparing them for performances.
- Organise and lead musical productions, concerts, and competitions.
- Encourage and mentor scholars participating in external music exams (e.g., ABRSM, Trinity, or Rockschool).
- Assist in planning and executing cultural events, such as the annual Festivals, school musicals or choir/ensemble tours.
Collaboration & School Engagement
- Work with other departments to integrate music into cross-curricular projects.
- Collaborate with school leadership to enhance Wembley College’s cultural and artistic programmes.
- Engage parents and the school community by organising concerts and musical showcases.
- Provide individual or group coaching for scholars preparing for performances, competitions, or music exams.
Administration & Professional Development
- Maintain scholar records, including progress reports and assessment data.
- Manage the school’s music resources, instruments, and equipment.
- Stay updated with the latest teaching methods, music trends, and Cambridge curriculum changes.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
- Experience in teaching music at the middle and/or high school level.
- Experience in teaching a second subject/language would be advantageous.
- Proficiency in piano and at least one musical instrument; conducting and vocal coaching experience is an advantage.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate scholars of all musical abilities.
- Familiarity with music technology and digital recording/composition tools (e.g., GarageBand, MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale or other DAW’s).
- SACE registered.
