Job purpose

  • Oversight and management of the accounting and reporting functions.
  • Oversight of the implementation and management of accounting controls within the unit
  • Ensures accurate and timeous reporting in line with requirements of the strategic plan, company policy and IFRS

Responsibilities

Planning: Policies & Systems

  • Manage financial accounting systems, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Develop, review, and manage the implementation of aligned and compliant financial policies and procedures.
  • Delegate, control and review authorization levels and system access for transaction processing. 

Financial Management

  • Oversee validity, accuracy, and completeness of financial information.
  • Manage and review the compilation of management, forecast, budget and reporting packs.
  • Manage the annual budget, ensuring that preparations meet the guidelines and instructions and align with the operational plan.
  • Review reconciliation of balance sheet accounts against the ledger
  • Oversee foreign exchange transactions, minimizing forex exposure.
  • Manage project expenditure, ensuring correct, timeous capitalization.
  • Manage cash flows in line with corporate policies.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of annual tax pack.
  • Review of sign off payments.
  • Manage and oversee Internal and External Audits
  • Manage Fixed assets including Intellectual Property, including asset register and depreciation/amortization.

Audit & Risk Management

  • Highlight concerns and risk items, ensuring timeous mitigation.
  • Facilitate the development and management of the risk register and ensure that mitigation steps are implemented.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring integration of the external team and the Aspen team.

Unit Management

  • Provide technical and operational input during drafting of unit strategy and operational objectives.
  • Guide operational planning and advise on prioritization of activities.
  • Provide input into budgets and resource requirements for the unit.
  • Request and allocate assets and resources for the fulfilment of work objectives and monitor their use.
  • Provide unit staff with day-to-day direction and tasks.

Requirements
Skills Required

Background/experience

  • 6 to 8 years’ working experience in a financial management environment.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and in the management of staff.
  • BCom degree in a financial field

Specific job skills

  • Computer literacy: proficiency in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and a fully integrated ERP system.
