Key roles and responsibilities:

Performs Silo Block Plant Operations

  •  Malt blending, Malt polishing and Dispatch systems – startup, operations, changeovers and shutdown as per operating procedures
  • Malt blending and Polishing transfer systems – startup, operations, changeovers, transfers and shutdown as per operating procedures
  • Cleaning of C4 – C7 shiftly
  •  Ensure silos were cleaned prior to usage
  •  Ensure intake to correct silo as per out loading plan
  •  Adherence to Blending plan
  •  Adherence to malt sales cleaning plan
  • Assist Barley Operator with Funkey driving
  • Fumigation monitoring
  • Performs all autonomous operations (ATO) tasks as per designated requirements

Malt quality at source analysis

  • Ensures that samples are taken and analysed for each batch and correctly identified
  • Takes samples for QA / QC analysis for Blending and Polishing
  •  Samples to be put back in system once analysis completed
  • Obtain authority to blend sheet
  • Checks BC 33 and MA bin at end of blend for Malt
  • Blend samples to be taken to the Lab timeously and collected once analysis are completed to put back into the system
  • Representative sample to be collected at all times
  • Achieves required standard of housekeeping in the workhouse area
  • Dips malt silos daily
  • Understands fully the operating principles, procedures and design capabilities of all plant and equipment and its functions
  • Checks correct functions of all machinery and equipment continuously including by product checks, recording of dust filter pressure, and reports problems
  •  Ensure correct flowrates and must also ensure that efficiencies (in terms of by-product or waste separation) are achieved at all times

Hygiene Standards in Silo Block Maintained

  • Ensuring that all ATO tasks are performed timeously and to standard, and deviations escalated
  • Responsible for picking up of all spillages on your shift
  • Perform daily third-party hygiene checks (cleaning contractor) and scoring
  • Daily update of master cleaning schedules
  • Hygiene issues escalated immediately

Perform administration

  • Ensure application of all administration systems and procedures 
  • Contribute to self and team development 
  • Maintenance of Operator Work Station
  • Complete and verify MES transactions
  • Complete job cards for any deviations
  • Communicates on an ongoing basis with Silo Block Lead (Or Process Lead on weekend Standby) to establish activities and sequences of activities and to report problems.
  • Responsible for ongoing checks and observation to ensure correct functioning of equipment. 
  • Takes corrective action, which includes stopping faulty equipment and reporting problems to Silo Block Lead (Or Process Lead on weekend Standby)

Problem solving 

  • Apply frontline problem solving and decision-making techniques and principles through the Quick fix routine procedures and Problem Terminator Digital Tool.

Minimum requirements:

  • Matric or equivalent e.g. NQF level 4 
  • 3 months on-the-job training
  • 2 – 5 years experience in a malting environment 
  • Previous experience in a process-controlled manufacturing environment, ideally in food FMCG products.
