KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Result Interpretation & Reporting

  • Analyze and interpret genetic and genomic test results and provide clinical reports as per laboratory and international standards.

Method Development & Quality Assurance

  • Contribute to the development & validation of new methods.
  • Participate in quality assurance and accreditation in line with ISO 15189 standards.

Laboratory Operations

  • Perform laboratory analyses, including sample reception, logging, processing, and quality assurance.

Laboratory Maintenance & Inventory Management

  • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and efficient inventory management.

Continuous Professional Development & Compliance

  • Maintain HPCSA registration through ongoing professional development and training.

Leadership, Academic Support & Supervision

  • Participate in in the CHM training program and post graduate student guidance.
  • Attend and represent CHM at national and international conferences, seminars, and professional meetings.

Other Duties

  • Perform ad hoc tasks as directed by management.

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
  • HPCSA registration as a Medical Biological Scientist in Human Genetics (or a portfolio of evidence ready for submission). Please clearly indicate your HPCSA registration number on your CV.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ laboratory analysis experience.
  • Candidates registered with the HPCSA within the last five years must submit their HPCSA portfolio of evidence with their application.
