A global reputable Asset Manager based in Johannesburg are seeking an Accountant. This role involves managing various financial activities for the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all processes.

As the Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the supplier invoice and payment process, managing the invoice and receipts process, handling bank accounts and cash book operations, maintaining general accounting tasks, preparing management accounts, handling tax and statutory obligations, participating in audits, and other financial activities. Reporting into the Senior Financial Manager, you will work closely with team members to ensure smooth financial operations and contribute to the growth and success of the business. Key qualifications for the Accountant:

  • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Degree/Honours in Accounting or Finance
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in an accountant role OR
  • CA(SA) with 1-2 years of experience out of audit (industry experience)
  • Asset Management industry experience (1st prize)
  • Experience in the Financial Services sector (essential)
  • Demonstrated history of outstanding academic achievement
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail

Key duties for the Accountant include but are not limited to:

  • Manage supplier invoices by validating, capturing, and reconciling them to the general ledger
  • Compile and load payment batches while tracking and analysing expenses
  • Obtain invoicing data from relevant parties, conduct sense checks, and raise customer invoices
  • Reconcile the general ledger to source documents and ensure timely collection of debtors
  • Process cash book entries into the accounting system and perform bank reconciliations
  • Handle banking administration tasks including maintaining beneficiaries and ensuring adequate funding for bank accounts and corporate cards
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and loan amortization schedules
  • Create and maintain relevant balance sheet and income statement schedules, and process periodic journals in the accounting system
  • Prepare payroll, EMP201, and EMP501 for Financial Manager review
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Assist in preparing presentations and schedules for board directors and shareholders
  • Prepare VAT201, provisional and annual tax calculations
  • Maintain accurate statutory records and handle the preparation of CIPC annual returns and Workmen’s Compensation filings
  • Serve as the main contact during the audit process, responsible for preparing trial balances, general ledgers, and supporting schedules for auditors
  • Respond to audit requests, provide necessary supporting documentation and explanations, and oversee the preparation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS) by outsourced service providers
