Job Description

  • This role is for an Assistant Financial Accountant position in the Wealth Administration Businesses Finance team and will support Old Mutual Investment Services by being responsible for financial accounting for statutory and management purposes. The Assistant Financial Accountant will be expected to provide support to the Financial Accountant and Senior Financial Accountant.
  • This role requires an initiative-taking individual that enjoys engaging with various stakeholders across the organisation on various OMIS related matters. The successful candidate will be required to partner with the team in modernising and strengthening our control environment and all required reporting.

Key responsibilities will include amongst others:

  • Financial Reporting
  • Compiles and populates records to Trial Balance level (capturing and processing of cashbook entries, preparation and submitting of journal entries, including calculations to support month end provisions and accruals, processing of ad hoc journals when required)
  • Processing of invoice payments
  • Assist with internal and external audit queries
  • Assist in preparation for HFM submissions
  • Assist with preparation of Annual Financial statements and related disclosure
  • Management Reporting
  • Provides data and insight into preparation of the Business Plan.
  • Preparation of OMIS internal reports
  • Debtors and Creditors
  • Debtor and creditor control (monitoring and follow up of settlement of debtors, and timeous settlement of creditors)
  • Reconciliations
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations (including intercompany reconciliations in Oracle and HFM)
  • Resolve reconciling items
  • Resolves intercompany mismatches
  • Preparation of bank recons and review of recons in relation to OMIS Nominees Company
  • Tax
  • VAT return calculations and submissions
  • Assist with Income Tax calculation
  • Other
  • Assist in ad hoc projects and tasks as required
  • Team Effectiveness
  • Open to process improvements and simplification in accounting
  • Balances own priorities
  • Individually accountable for own time. Tasks and output quality.

Qualification, Skills and Experience required

  • Bcom Accounting/Bcom Finance Management
  • SAIPA/ACCA accreditation (advantageous)
  • Minimum 3 relevant years’ experience, financial services required
  • Microsoft office
  • Intermediate Excel skills would be beneficial
  • HFM reporting experience would be beneficial
  • Power BI (advantageous)
