PURPOSE:

  • To direct and co-ordinate operational aspects through project life cycles to ensure optimum performance according to Life of Mine, business requirements, organisational objectives and sound engineering practice.
  • To provide support to Manager, Engineering to optimize performance of equipment through operational and maintenance processes, methods and technology of assets.

Minimum Requirements    

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BEng Electrical Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
  • BEng Mechanical Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
  • B Tech Electrical Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
  • B Tech Mechanical Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Gov Cert of Competence: Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
  • Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 6-8 years Relevant plant, production, operational and maintenance experience; Project Management, Design and development experience. With coal underground or surface experience 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
  • MHS Act Regulation 2.13.3.1 (AME) (Essential/Minimum)
  • Competence: SAP Position Specific Module (Essential/Minimum)
  • Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Recommended/Desirable)

Duties & Responsibilities    

Asset Management    

  • Ensure availability, reliability and cost optimisation of assets
  • Ensure asset management alignment to business strategies
  • Value adding to business asset management
  • Ensure effective life cycle management of assets through application of Physical Asset Management (PAM) principles and Reliability Centred Management (RCM) principles

Compliance, Governance and Assurance    

  • Establish an effective methodology of business operations, communications and control whereby statutory compliance and appropriate mitigation of risk is achieved
  • Ensures compliance to sound engineering standards to quality
  • Develop operating procedures to align with business objectives
  • Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), South African National Standards (SANS) and compliance with company specific Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures
  • Manage risk and monitor standards
  • Create awareness and assume responsibility for SHE practices

Continuous Improvement    

  • Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments within specialist field
  • Liaise with other departments toward evaluating new technologies to improve process capabilities, product quality and throughput requirements
  • Implement Theory of Constraints (TOC) principles to optimise process capability and asset management
  • Conduct research work in order to initiate process changes

Customer and Client Relationship Management    

  • Represent operations, maintenance and service departments in projects
  • Provide expert technical and operational support to project teams and operational teams

Effective People Management    

  • Promote teamwork, provide support and manage performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans of subordinates
  • Oversee activities of reporting staff and strive toward achieving operational targets
  • Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to job and working environment, at discretion of Manager
  • Ensure staff are motivated, empowered and lead by sound performance management and transformational leadership practices

Financial Management    

  • Prepare and control section’s annual budget by forecasting operational costs and monitor expenditure and cash flow on a regular basis
  • Focus on advancements in specialist field in order to assess advancements and potential cost reduction

Functional Excellence    

  • Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end to end processes, tools, templates etc.
  • Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes, eliminating duplication and bureaucracy
  • Apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices and knowledge

Operational Support    

  • Coordinate commissioning, quality assurance processes as well as performance criteria testing
  • Conduct complex analysis of project systems and processes
  • Provide technical inputs to the project team
  • Provide inputs in designs, technical reviews, Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOPS) and other project related reviews
  • Ensure design for operability, maintainability and efficiency
