About the role: 

  • We are seeking to appoint an experienced and dynamic Civil Engineer in our accomplished water resources management team in Tshwane and Cape Town at an Associate level. Are you a motivated professional with the ability to inspire others, display strong leadership capabilities and are driven to make an impact for our clients, the communities we serve and the environment, then this role may be for you. 

Role Responsibilities 

Based on your diverse professional experience and technical knowledge your responsibilities will a combination of the following across various geographies:  

  • Integrated water resources planning and management. 
  • Prefeasibility/feasibility studies. 
  • Master planning. 
  • Hydrological analysis. 
  • Water resources modelling. 
  • Systems analysis. 
  • Flood risk assessment. 
  • Water demand analysis. 
  • Open channel hydraulics. 
  • Stormwater analysis. 
  • Information management systems. 
  • Spatial analysis. 
  • Data analytics. 
  • Stakeholder engagement. 
  • Facilitation of meetings and workshops. 
  • Training and capacity building 
  • Bid preparation and technical report writing. 
  • Leading a range of projects across southern Africa, Africa and the Middle East, you will display strong commercial acumen and will be comfortable managing multi-disciplinary project teams. 
  • Fulfilling a leadership role in the water resources management team and the broader water market within Zutari, you will take responsibility for winning work, growing client relationships and managing resources towards achieving the Water Market goals as well as the overall Zutari strategy.  

Minimum Requirements  

  • BSc Eng/BEng in a relevant civil engineering discipline complimented by a relevant postgraduate qualification. 
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).  
  • At least 10 years postgraduate experience in civil engineering.  
  • Comprehensive project management, quality assurance and project governance experience.   
  • Effective planning and time management skills. 
  • Ability to lead, mentor and manage people and have strong inter-personal and networking skills.  
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Ability to work under pressure and consistently deliver work of outstanding quality. 

Career Growth & Education

A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Management is mandatory, alongside professional registration with ECSA. Career growth leads to Technical Director or Operations Executive roles by mastering strategic infrastructure planning and AI-driven engineering. Pursuing executive leadership bootcamps and obtaining certifications in digital transformation provides a pathway to senior roles in the global infrastructure and utility sector.

Salary & Financial Insight

Estimated monthly salaries range from R75,000 to R125,000, reflecting the high technical stakes of water engineering. High-earning engineers should prioritize professional tax planning and offshore investment diversification to protect their long-term capital growth.
