Job Purpose
- To plan and execute chemical testing of samples in accordance with SANAS 17025 standards, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant results that support food safety and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct simple and complex chemical tests independently, including troubleshooting.
- Verify and interpret test results using known reference data.
- Maintain turnaround times (TATs) and escalate delays to the Chemistry Lab Manager.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments (e.g., ICP-MS, UV-Vis, AAS).
- Notify management of calibration and servicing needs.
- Ensure compliance with OHS and Quality Assurance procedures.
- Implement corrective actions for quality and TAT deviations.
- Manage stock levels and consumable costs effectively.
- Foster positive relationships with internal and external clients.
- Maintain good housekeeping and safety practices.
- Read and understand relevant procedures and MSDSs.
- Perform other duties within scope as assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- National Diploma or Degree in Analytical Chemistry or Biotechnology.
Experience:
- 1–2 years’ experience in Nutritional and Heavy Metal Analysis.
- Exposure to SANAS ISO/IEC 17025 accredited environments.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with instruments such as ICP-MS, UV-Vis, and AAS.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and quality systems.
