  • The Business Analyst takes responsibility for assisting with the improvement of the quality of IT products and services by analysing data to inform business decisions and finding technology solutions to business needs.

Assessment and Improvement of IT Systems

  • Assess information technology systems.
  • Make suggestions for better alignment with business needs.
  • Team Collaboration and Understanding

Collaborate with team members.

  • Understand organizational and operational challenges.

Prioritization and Objective Determination

  • Determine IT service request objectives.
  • Prioritize requirements of stakeholders accordingly.

Business Needs Discovery and Clarification

  • Discover, organize, and clarify business needs.
  • Review/produce specifications for change.

Definition of Business System Objectives

  • Define objectives and scope of the business system.

Requirement Specification

  • Prepare detailed requirement specifications.
  • Use case statements and related documentation.

Work Session Facilitation

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate work sessions for gathering business requirements.

Business Case Development

  • Assist with the development of the business case.

Requirements Review and Editing

  • Review and edit requirements based on proposed solutions.

System Solution Research and Evaluation

  • Research, evaluate, and source possible system solutions.

Status Meetings and Prioritization

  • Conduct status meetings with business for updates.
  • Prioritize work efforts.

Collaboration with Development Teams

  • Collaborate with application and software development team.
  • Design, development, and defect management.

Testing and Project Management

  • Work with the software testing team.
  • Setup test criteria and test plans.
  • Manage documented requirements through the development cycle.

Project Lifecycle Management

  • Use requirements for design or review of test cases.
  • Process change requests.
  • Manage project scope, acceptance, installation, and deployment.

 

Requirements:

Knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Proficient in data analysis.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good understanding of business functional areas.
  • Ability to problem solve and apply relevant methodologies to prepare detailed specifications using case statements and related documentation.
  • Knowledge of proper requirements specification and development.
  • Working knowledge of Agile and Waterfall Methodologies.
  • Ability to elicit requirements and write technical documents.

Education and training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer engineering, or related field

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years progressive experience in an IT business analysis role.
  • Experience using process / functional requirements definition methods.
  • Experience in programming.
