Key Responsibility Areas

  • Evaluates and comments on options and alternatives associated with High Voltage cables.
  • Provides technical advice and controls the key performance areas and outputs associated with the Technical Administration Division of the HV cables Branch and assist when equipment failure or abnormal events occur in the network.
  • Co-ordinates and controls tasks/activities associated with controlling personnel performance, productivity and discipline.
  • Implements procedures and systems to monitor and control maintenance work programmes, material requirement, equipment status and execution of tasks.
  • Applies technical evaluative and interpretative techniques to conduct assessments and monitor conformity to standards
  • Programmes maintenance, construction and inspection based on criteria’s and requirements.
  • Prepares and collates the contract documentation and evaluation of tender submissions for High Voltage cables.
  • Investigates, introduces and manages best practice approaches to specific condition assessment and maintenance programmes of High Voltage plant, equipment and infrastructure of all HV cables.
  • Performs switching operations during commissioning, operational and emergency conditions on the medium and high-volume system (from 6,6kV to 275kV).
  • Researches relevant engineering technologies and regulatory practices applicable to electrical programmes and interventions.
  • Co-ordinates record updating and reporting requirements on functions/activities with the Branch.
  • Promotes and supports safety and accident prevention and ensure compliance to the OHS Act.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering (NQF Level 7) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered as a professional Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 5 Years relevant post registration experience in the Electricity Supply Industry.
  • Computer Literacy.
