Duties and responsibilities:
- Manage road safety awareness campaigns at the three campuses of the University of the Free State.
- Develop and manage implementation of operational plans for Traffic Law Enforcement Unit.
- Ensure that road safety risk assessments are conducted.
- Ensure that all traffic related incidents are effectively investigated.
- Represent the Traffic Law Enforcement Unit on all appropriate forums both on and off campus.
- Manage performance of staff in accordance with the UFS policies.
- Manage workplace discipline and grievances according to prescribed UFS policies and protocols.
- Ensure staff engagement through one-on-one meetings and sectional meetings etc.
- Develop and ensure implementation of fleet management protocols.
- Manage the process of buying new vehicles for the department and disposing of old vehicles in accordance with the UFS asset management protocols.
- Monitor the fleet spending patterns and intervene as and when a need arises.
- Ensure that the vehicles are serviced in accordance with the service manufacturers’ service intervals.
- Manage the allocation of parking to staff.
- Manage and oversee the selling of students, staff, contractors and visitors access discs.
- Coordinate and liaise with Mangaung Metro police for tracing of vehicle information.
- Manage all revenue collected from selling of access discs and traffic fines payments.
- Manage fleet entity and approve all procurements related to motor vehicles.
- Manage monthly expenditure and inspection reports from the division and implement corrective action in problem areas.
- Attend all meetings related to traffic operational matters.
- Keep records and give statistics to management.
Inherent requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or an advanced diploma/BTech degree on NQF Level 7 in Traffic Safety Management/Road Policing or closely related field.
- Diploma for Traffic Officers from a recognised traffic training academy (attach a copy).
- Valid registration with the Institute of Traffic Officers (attach a copy).
- A valid South African driver’s license (attach a copy).
Recommendations:
- A certificate of Examiner of Vehicles (attach a copy).
- An Honours or postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Management or Public Administration on NQF Level 8
- Events management coordination.
