Job Description

  • To provide a combination prevention evidenced-based package, focusing on HIV prevention (including oral PrEP as the additional prevention option) to clients incorporating a comprehensive package of sexual health services and HIV, TB, STI screening, diagnosis, treatment, and continuity of care and condom promotion and distribution. To ensure navigation of referrals into a facility where needed 

Minimum Requirements    

  • Degree / diploma or relevant nursing qualification
  • 5 years’ experience in nursing after registration
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse
  • NIMART trained
  • IMCI trained
  • Quality improvement certificate
  • Proficiency in English & IsiZulu languages

Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Develops and maintains relationships with facility managers and relevant stakeholders
  • Implements package of integrated SRH services: Integrated HIV counselling and testing, ART initiation, PrEP initiation, pregnancy testing, contraception (incl. emergency, condoms), postexposure prophylaxis, TB screening, STI screening and management, creatinine clearance, screening for mental health, substance, and alcohol abuse
  • Train, mentor, and coach Operation Phuthuma Champions
  • Provides mentorship to initiation and retention team.
  • Facilitates implementation men’s health services including VMMC
  • Facilitates and support health calendar month activities/events and awareness campaigns
  • Facilitates disclosure and establishment of adherence clubs
  • Submits monthly reports
  • Collaborates with Department of Basic Education (DBE), Department of Social Development (DSD), Department of Health (DOH) managers and community role-players to scale up THC’s package of services
  • Adheres to Infection Prevention Control (IPC) standards
  • Minimizes the risk of needle stick injuries by ensuring that all staff follow the recommended protocol
  • Implements the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) protocol and ensures all staff adhere to the protocol
