Purpose
- As a Construction Manager, you will collaborate closely with the project delivery team to ensure all construction requirements are met, strengthening Proconics’ reputation as a trusted and essential partner to its clients. The candidate must be based in Cape Town or Durban and be willing to travel as required. This role reports to the Senior Manager: Construction and SHEQ (Coastal).
Requirements
- Lead a team of contractors in guiding their planning, organizing, coordinating and safe execution of construction projects.
- Verify the construction scopes in RFQ/ RFP phases of construction projects to support the project team in compiling detailed BOQ’s.
- Continuously develop, monitor, support and implement construction management processes/ systems that support and promote the business and client continuous improvement efforts.
- Legal responsibilities as per Construction Regulations (CR) 8.1 (core) and/or 8.2 as an assistant to relieve and/ or support construction managers on site as and when required.
- Oversee and guide construction projects from initial phase to completion.
- Assist and support Project Manager to develop and implement construction management processes and procedures based on industry best practices and to retain client relations.
- Review the project in-depth to schedule activities and assist the planner with detailed timelines for execution phase of projects together with the contractor.
- Facilitate construction meetings when executing construction projects.
- Oversee all onsite and offsite construction to monitor compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations.
- Plan, coordinate, guide and manage construction workers and subcontractors.
- Continuously assess safeness of work sites/ areas to ensure safety of people and property, communicate such and keep records thereof.
- Support construction managers to meet contractual obligations of projects performances.
- Support, monitor and guide performance of contractors and maintain regular heartbeats to promote teamwork and collaboration across all disciplines.
Qualifications/Experience
- Electrical/Instrumentation/Mechanical/Civil trade qualifications and experience or a National Diploma in Engineering.
- Must be registered or working towards becoming a registered construction manager with SACPCMP.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Construction Manager. Advanced knowledge of construction management processes means and methods and contractor management skills.
- Understanding of all the different construction planning processes and phases.
- Good knowledge of the New Engineering Contracts (NEC3) Engineering and Construction Contracts (ECC) types of contracts.
- Ability to plan proactively towards achieving key construction milestones.
- Advanced knowledge and proven experience in managing brownfields multidisciplinary construction challenges.
- Knowledge of applicable construction codes, standards, and regulations.
- Knowledge of legal appointments according to the construction regulations.
- Must be able to construct safe and fit for purpose solutions to clients to create long-term relationships.
