Job Description
- This will be a 12 months contract position
- As a Data Scientist, you will lead the design and deployment of intelligent analytical solutions to inform both tactical and strategic decision-making at the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) level.
- Your role will include performing in-depth data analytics utilizing statistical methodologies, predictive modeling, and optimization algorithms to identify patterns, uncover opportunities, and mitigate risks across the operation’s value chain.
- You will construct and implement complex machine learning models and simulation frameworks to solve high-impact business challenges, from pit to port.
- Additionally, you will drive the adoption of data-driven approaches, and effectively translate complex analytical insights into actionable strategies for the business.
Minimum Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in statistics, applied mathematics, engineering, computer science or related discipline (Essential/Minimum or)
EXPERIENCE:
- 4+ years of extensive experience in applied data science, with a focus on practical and commercial analytics in mining or closely related industries. Technical expertise in leveraging advanced machine learning frameworks, libraries, and techniques for model development, deployment, and optimization. Demonstrated success in driving complex business integration projects that harness end-to-end data science techniques to enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and drive innovation. Adept at developing and validating robust machine learning and AI algorithms, with a strong understanding of domain-specific challenges.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Ideal Candidate Profile (Includes but not limited to):
Ability to:
- Develop and lead the application of data science modelling at an Integrated Operations Centre level to deliver insight-driven tactical and strategic value creation.
- Provide statistical analysis, forecasting, predictive modelling, prescriptive analytics, simulation and optimisation to discover trends, opportunities and threats.
- Design quantitative advanced analytics models that answer business questions and/or discover opportunities for improvement/optimisation at the business unit.
- Use data to support and optimise decision making, including predictive decision-making across the business value chain from the pit right through to the port.
- Ensure the availability of approved resources (skills, funding, technology, etc.) for modelling initiatives, driving change and influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
- Communicate and present findings and recommendations to management and business.
- Coach junior data scientists if required.
