Job Summary

  • The Data Visualisation Developer is a key member of the Deployment team and works on the reporting process and tasks for their service line as assigned. The tasks include the running and checking of reports for delivery as well as the development of custom and ad hoc reports as allocated by the Deployment Manager and the Data Visualisation team as required. The work allocated would be for standard and syndicated solutions that require some evaluation and originality.

Key responsibilities

Report running and checking

  • Runs reports (monthly, weekly, and daily) and checks to ensure that the reports are correctly refreshing, and that data is accurately reflecting in the reports.
  • Reviews any automated checks and refreshes for accuracy and correctness.
  • Identifies any errors within the data and communicates these to the relevant team to fix.
  • Ensures that the reporting frameworks are complete and ready for delivery within the agreed timeframes.
  • Identifies any issues and communicates progress and challenges on an ongoing basis and escalates any issues for resolution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues and escalate complex issues for joint resolution.

Report Changes

  • Receives report change briefs from Client Success or the Deployment Manager and executes these changes (calculations, dashboard elements, aesthetic changes) with guidance as required.
  • Works on both syndicated and standard reports and some integrated and more complex reporting solutions under guidance as required.
  • Work would be done under supervision and guidance of Senior Data Visualisation Developer as required.

Communication and Adhoc Reporting Tasks 

  • Engages with the Client Success team and/or clients to complete any ad hoc reporting tasks and creates new reports as required.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues and communicates progress and challenges and escalates only complex issues for resolution.
  • Other tasks within the Data Visualisation team as identified and required

Creates new data sources and new reports

  • Creates Pyramid (and/or other BI and analytics tools used by Smollan) datasources.
  • Creates new reports by inputting new calculations, time frames, measures etc.
  • Updates and moves reports over to newer versions ensuring correct reporting standards.

Completes new set-ups in the Deployment Team

  • Completes a Data Engineer briefing document and participates in review meetings to ensure an understanding of reporting requirements and deliverables for new set-ups.
  • Is proficient at setting up new clients and standard reporting within the relevant service line and  has a full understanding of the process of set ups from data receipt to reporting.
  • Checks and signs off on setup checks for completeness and has a full understanding of new set-ups deliverables, to ensure the successful integration into the team.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree/NQF level 7 in Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics, Information Systems or equivalent qualification;
  • Pyramid Analytics Certification (Advantageous)
  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate/ Tableau/ Qlikview Certification (Advantageous)

Minimum Experience

  • 3 – 5 years in a data centric role with exposure to end-to-end dashboard design, complex SQL/data modeling, and direct stakeholder interaction.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in tools like Pyramid, Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView/QlikSense. Should be able to create complex calculations, parameters, and interactive dashboards
  • Data Manipulation (SQL): Ability to query databases to troubleshoot “data issues” or prepare datasets for reporting is essential
  • Knowledge of, and a conceptual understanding of Data Warehousing principles, SQL and data modelling
  • Knowledge of and understanding of Pyramid (and/or another BI analytics platform) calculations and analytics
  • Knowledge of the “Gestalt Principles” of design —knowing which chart type (Bar vs. Scatter vs. Sankey) best tells the story for a specific client requirement Highly analytical with problem solving skill
