Job Purpose    

  • The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to manage and coordinate the provision of agricultural support, assistance to farmers as well as the implementation of land reform programmes and agricultural development projects as per the Annual Performacnce Plan (APP) indicator shedulefor the districts ofCape Winelands and Cape Metropole.

Minimum Requirements    

  • An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (or higher qualification) in Agriculture ; A minimum of 3 years management level experience in the agricultural sector; A valid (Code B or higher) driving licence. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply.

Recommendation    

  • An appropriate post graduate qualification.

Key Performance Areas    

  • Manage agricultural producer support and development services towards the achievement of the programme objectives; Manage, lead and coordinate the district activities; Maintain and manage internal and external collaboration with stakeholders; Financial, administration and people management.

Competencies    

  • Knowledge of the following: Extension methodology, project planning and management; Agricultural producer support (smallholder and commercial agricultural sector support systems); Food security system support; Management processes; Labour relations legislation and regulations; Performance management; Public Finance Management Act (PFMA); National and Provincial Treasury Regulations and other financial policies; Skills needed: Written and verbal communication; Project management; Financial and budget management; Supervisory and personnel management; People management; Organising and networking; Ability to work under pressure.
