About the Role
The Deputy Director drives high-RPM operational stability by managing technical data and ensuring 100% compliance with engineering and health standards across rural hubs. Utilizing Oracle for financial oversight and ServiceNow for facility incident management, the director mitigates operational risk in public health infrastructure. Their leadership leverages data-driven insights to optimize service delivery and ensure the technical reliability of regional healthcare facilities.
- An appropriate National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical /Electrical) or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Appropriate/recognisable managerial experience in health care engineering and maintenance after obtaining the relevant qualification e.g. National Diploma in Engineering. Appropriate experience in design, specification and maintenance of hospital infrastructure. Appropriate experience in the compilation of specifications and procurement documentation.
- Knowledge in the compilation of specifications and tender documentation. Contracts and quality management skills. Knowledge of risk analysis and risk mitigation strategies and prioritisation.
- Conversant with OHSA and pertaining to relevant prescripts and regulations. Conversant with NEC contracts especialy the Short-, Term service- and Framework aggreement forms of contracts.
- Computer literate (MS Word. Auto CAD and Excel). Budgeting and planning of workshop activities to support the province with maintenance activities. Sound interpersonal and good verbal and written communication skills.
- Management and provision of an effective, efficient, and affordable Hospital Engineering Services Monitor and evaluate maintenance projects according to the strategy, plans, and provide feedback to all stakeholders. Perform inspections and provide transversal technical guidance and advice to Health Facilities within the Province. Implementation of projects and direct technical support to facilities. Finance and Supply Chain Management. People Management.
- Willing to work overtime, stay away and travel throughout the Western Cape Province, often at short notice. Willing to assist in other institutions and directorates. Physically fit and able to inspect buildings and related engineering infrastructure and machinery. Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence.

A degree in Engineering, Public Management, or Health Administration is mandatory, supplemented by at least 5 years of senior management experience. Salary & Financial Insight
