Job Description

Deputy Responsible Pharmacist Duties:

  • Act in a deputy capacity to the company's designated Responsible Pharmacist, providing essential support in the execution of all statutory duties.
  • Assist in ensuring all pharmaceutical activities are conducted in strict compliance with the Medicines and Related Substances Act and overarching GXP quality guidelines.
  • Play a key supporting role during regulatory inspections and audits conducted by the South African Pharmacy Health Product Regulatory Authority and other health authorities, including internal audits.

Quality Assurance & Product Lifecycle Management:

  • Batch Release: Assist in the final review and disposition of finished product batches, ensuring all quality specifications and regulatory requirements are met before release to the market.
  • Complaint Management: Support the management of product quality complaints, assisting in their thorough investigation, root cause analysis, and timely resolution in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Annual Reviews: Contribute to the compilation and analysis of Annual Product Quality Reviews (APQRs), helping to identify data trends and drive continuous process improvement.
  • Product Stability Oversight: Support the monitoring of the ongoing product stability program. Assist in reviewing stability data to ensure product quality, safety, and efficacy are maintained throughout the designated shelf life.
  • QMS & SOPs: Support the maintenance and enhancement of the Quality Management System (QMS) and assist in authoring and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to GXP and quality compliance.

Pharmaceutical Governance & Operations:

  • 3PL Collaboration: Act as a key quality liaison with our Third-Party Logistics (3PL) partners. Communicate and collaborate effectively to provide quality oversight, ensuring all outsourced storage and distribution activities comply with GXP standards and our quality agreements.
  • Operational Oversight: Assist in the oversight of compliant storage, documentation, and control of all medicines, including meticulous record-keeping for controlled substances.
  • Product Integrity: Ensure the integrity of products throughout the supply chain, with a focus on proper handling procedures in line with GXP standards.
  • Internal Guidance: Provide expert pharmaceutical guidance to internal stakeholders in Supply Chain, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure compliant execution of business activities.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree.
  • Registration: Must be registered as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Experience: 0–3 years of post-community service experience. Candidates must possess hands-on experience gained from working within a pharmaceutical manufacturing (production) or Quality Assurance (QA) environment.
