About the Role
This high-RPM HR role manages complex labor relations data and ensures 100% compliance with national labor laws and industrial standards. Utilizing Workday for employee lifecycle management and ServiceNow for incident tracking, the specialist mitigates operational risk associated with industrial disputes. Their work leverages data-driven insights to maintain a stable labor environment and drive organizational productivity within the mining and engineering sector.
The Role:
- To assist in promoting harmonious workplace relations and sound employment practices in accordance with relevant labour legislation and the company’s policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Employee Relations strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and labour relations best practice.
- Promote and sustain a constructive, fair, and legally compliant employee relations climate, fostering positive engagement between management, employees, and representative structures.
- Maintain in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of labour legislation and related legal frameworks, including the LRA, BCEA, EEA, SDA, and relevant Codes of Good Practice.
- Monitor and communicate changes in labour legislation and case law, providing timely updates and guidance to HR Management, HR Business Partners, and line management.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to deliver sound, practical labour-law opinions and risk-based recommendations on employee relations matters.
- Provide expert employee relations advice to HR Generalists, HR Business Partners, and management on counselling, grievances, misconduct, incapacity, poor performance, retrenchments, and dispute resolution, ensuring procedural and substantive fairness and adherence to Company policies and legislation.
- Manage and represent the organisation in CCMA and Bargaining Council matters, including preparation of documentation, evidence packs, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise and manage relationships with external Employee Relations service providers, including training providers, chairpersons, legal advisors, and consultants, ensuring quality and consistency of services.
- Ensure the accurate maintenance of ER documentation, records, and case files in line with governance, audit, and confidentiality requirements.
- Prepare and deliver regular Employee Relations reports to HR Management, highlighting trends, risks, outcomes, and recommendations for preventative or corrective action.
Profile required:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
- 3-5 years relevant experience.
- Admitted Attorney or Advocate, advantageous
- Experience in Employee Relations / Labour Relations
- Extensive experience dealing with trade unions and workplace forums
- Proven CCMA, Bargaining Council and Labour Court exposure
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent English Proficiency
- Office Suite Literacy
