Job Description

Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

  • The Core Network Planning Engineer will work to maintain the Mobility service (VAS, A2P, Signalling. GRX, IPX) network at the optimum level to deliver efficient service, as well as infrastructure supporting connectivity.
  • The role will oversee the plan, design, and implementation of a Mobility network  (VAS, A2P, Signalling. GRX, IPX) network to support Wholesale, BAYOBAB mobile voice and data, MNC enterprise and/or service provider environment and serve as a subject matter expert for Bayobab for the setting up of mobility service strategies, technology roadmaps and implementation

Key Performance Areas:

The Core Network Planning will be accountable to achieve the following objectives: 

  • Support on VAS, GRX, IPX, A2P  design to  deliver end-to-end wholesale Service  to partner and BAYOBAB OPCOs 
  • Support High Level Design (HLD) and LLD for new mobility service to be integrated, with all technical information’s for link integration and support and prepare handover documentation for service implementation and Operation
  • Prepare change request for Mobility Service (VAS, GRX, IPX, A2P) links, new or  change (Upgrade/downgrade) for service implementation and submit on the relevant internal server,  follow the change implementation with implementation team or managed service entity 
  • Track Mobility  link usage and recommend possible upgrade solutions to avoid traffic drop for the customer; track if required the commercials
  • Implement work around solutions whilst permanent solutions are being negotiated to alleviate capacity bottleneck 
  • Support the capacity management of the core network with all inputs for other stakeholders 
  • Support the core link delivery through 3rd parties, consortiums, international operators with other priorities 
  • Provide various reports for wholesale to monitor the core network and the services 
  • Liaise with network and technology teams in OpCos to understand the Core network landscape in the countries and support in the maintenance of the fixed asset register 

Role Deliverables 

  • Inputs to complex client proposals, both internal (BAYOBAB OpCos, partners, Wholesale Mobility business units) and external, from a technical point of view 
  • Analysis of the utilisation of the current core network 
  • Inputs for asset investment recommendations 
  • Integrated carrier wholesale solution design/landscape 
  • Updated customers and partners implementation strategies 
  • Defined Infrastructure plan for the core network connectivity – Operational presentations 

Role Dependencies 

  • Support of the Mobility strategy and other significant business unit – VAS team, Signalling team 
  • Inputs for Mobility wholesales business units in client solution designs 
  • Understand the sales service order form and the customer requirements and translate to a technical solution 
  • Keep updated records of the core link provisioned and circuit on the Bayobab platform infrastructure 
  • Technical solutions alignment to regulatory approval across multiple jurisdictions 

Job Requirements:

Education: 

  • Minimum 4 Year Academic Degree in Technical/ Engineering Degree/Diploma or similar qualification 

Experience: 

  • 5+ years in relevant experience in the international telecommunication wholesales infrastructure industry in GSM, Core network, VAS, configuration and testing 
  • Relevant experience with Core GSM network, VAS, Minimum of 2 years of experience with multiservice platforms Signalling and VAS

Competencies: 

  • Ability to maintain a large core GSM network 
  • Good Signalling/VAS/GRX skills 
  • Detailed knowledge on the international telecommunication infrastructure industry in regard to latest industry trends and competitive landscape within the BAYOBAB footprint 
  • Good understanding of Signalling networks, GRX, IPX, A2P, P2P
  • Effectively manage processes and solutions to maximize efficient work within the business unit Desire to provide inputs for new product development and management
  • High communication and presentation skills to efficiently manage partners, customers an colleagues within Bayobab business units 
  • Strong analytical skills to be able to execute market analysis, competitor landscape reports and customer monitoring 
  • Understanding the connectivity infrastructure wholesales landscape with a focus of emerging markets 
  • Work proactively across multiple cultures and languages within the BAYOBAB footprint countries – Strong computer literacy

  • Able to motivate and inspire team members across multiple BAYOBAB footprints
