About the Role
Engineering Planners optimize hospital infrastructure and maintenance schedules using platforms like SAP, Oracle, and AWS. Their work minimizes operational downtime and mitigates compliance risks in critical healthcare systems.
A vacancy exists for an Engineering Planner, based at Life Kingsbury Hospital, Cape Town reporting to Thembisile Mdini, Engineering Manager. The successful candidate to ensure well maintained assets and work force productivity by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of workforce, parts, and equipment access. Effectively this role is the second in charge for engineering managers and a potential succession plan for the engineering management role, aimed at ensuring reliable equipment throughout their asset life cycle.
Critical Outputs
- Assist the Engineering Maintenance personnel balance their need for daily output with their need for equipment reliability and a well-maintained facility through proactive maintenance. This is achieved though effective planning, scheduling, and coordination all plannable maintenance work performed within the facility and effective arrangement and administration of resources to execute day-to-day corrective maintenance reported to the department with the goal being to minimize backlog.
- Effectively plan, schedule, and coordinate all plannable maintenance work performed within the facility. Furthermore, track and report functional metrics/key performance indicators to identify and deliver opportunities for improvement through Best-in-class engineering practices leadership, excellence, efficiency, and continuous improvement to ensure the reliability and maintainability of all facilities and operations’ plant, equipment, and installations and, through failures mode analysis.
- Ensure that all internal beneficiaries of Maintenance receive timely, efficient, and quality service.
- Ensure plant and equipment reliability though sound preventative maintenance and planning and provide a central source of information concerning maintenance work, equipment, and equipment repair.
- Provide a central source of information concerning maintenance work, equipment, and equipment repair. Also, effectively manage and advise the Engineering Manager of the timing of execution of scheduled legal maintenance to completely avoid backlog.
- Provide special tool and equipment requirements.
- Reduce the total cost of maintenance while improving conditions of equipment and operating facilities.
- Effectively arrange and administrate resources to execute day-to-day corrective maintenance reported to the department with the goal being to minimize backlog.
- Effectively manage and advise the Engineering Manager of the timing of execution of scheduled legal maintenance to completely avoid backlog.
- Collaborate effectively with the maintenance personnel to anticipate repair work before jobs become emergencies.
- Assist the maintenance team with “Root Cause Analysis” of equipment failures and proper documentation of such incidents. This is achieved through evaluation of plant and equipment failure and analysis of root causes using best practices – Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics (CMD) etc.
- Utilize equipment data feeds to guide equipment maintenance decisions and provide engineering solutions to repetitive failures through analysis and predictive modelling.
- Regularly assess quality of maintenance planning, recording, and archiving in line with ISO quality standards.
- Liaise and maintain a positive and favorable working and professional relationship with all relevant suppliers and service providers.
Requirements
- At least N6 qualification with Trade Test certificate in either Mechanical or Electrical (Heavy current) or,
- National S4 Diploma in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) engineering with a minimum of 3 years in operations or engineering maintenance.
- Practical experience in a hospital environment or similar environment is essential.
- Computer literacy and experience on a CMMS preferably SAP PM would be an added advantage.
