Responsibilities
Strategic Engagement and Internal Activation
- Design and execute the Group-wide data monetization roadmap for MTN, ensuring alignment with the platform strategy
- Champion data as a strategic asset, building a unified pan-African agenda for data-led innovation and commercial growth
- Act as the internal ambassador for DataCo, advocating for the power of data across the organization
- Inspire Group Exco, OpCo CEOs, and senior business leaders by articulating the revenue-generating potential enabled by data
- Lead OpCo engagement and steer the development of a robust internal pipeline of strategic use cases in line with DataCo’s strategy
- Craft tailored transformation charters for each OpCo, ensuring alignment with C-level priorities and responsiveness to local market dynamics
Data -driven solution development
- Collaborate with OpCos and Group units to co-create transformation roadmaps focused on data monetization and strategic growth
- Drive alignment of OpCo business units to the Group’s standardized data product portfolio and pricing models
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of data-driven products and services—from ideation and commercial use-case design to development and ongoing optimization. Key offerings include customer and behavioral insights, identity and verification APIs, location intelligence, and data-as-a-service platforms
- Champion customer-centric product development through agile methodologies and iterative design practices
- Ensure integration of data products with MTN’s broader digital, fintech, and enterprise solutions ecosystems
- Establish and scale MTN’s Data-Driven Organization (DDO) advisory function
Solution Sales & Technical Pre-Sales Enablement
- Collaborate with Group and OpCo sales teams to co-develop, position, and deliver data and analytics solutions tailored to B2B clients across key sectors such as financial services, FMCG, retail, and government
- Oversee the creation of sales collateral, technical demos, and proof-of-concept frameworks to support pre-sales engagements
- Empower sales teams with the technical expertise and consultative tools required to close complex data and analytics deals
- Own & deliver the business case and P&L for the data monetization portfolio, setting ambitious revenue and margin targets while driving scalable growth across MTN’s footprint and beyond
- Define go-to-market strategies and monetization models for priority verticals and regions
Ecosystem Development and Strategic Partnerships
- Identify and build high-value partnerships with key ecosystem partners including data aggregators, tech platforms, advertisers, solution delivery partners, and analytics providers to drive co-innovation and market expansion
- Establish monetization-focused collaborations around geospatial intelligence, AI-powered datasets, and data marketplaces
- Represent MTN in pan-African and global forums to elevate the discourse on data-driven analytics solutions across an extensive range of Medium, Large Enterprise, and Public Sector verticals
Change Management and Commercial Enablement
- Champion a culture of data literacy and commercial acumen across MTN’s leadership and mid-tier management
- Build and lead a high-performing DataCo team comprising product managers, data scientists, IT and solution engineers, and business development & G2M experts
- Foster a culture of innovation, agility, and cross-functional collaboration across Group and OpCo teams
- Lead capability building for data monetization within DataCo and across OpCos
- Deploy structured playbooks, incentive models, and operational frameworks to embed commercial thinking into data initiatives
Productization and Market Activation
- Define product-market fit for MTN’s high-value data offerings across sectors including FMCG, financial services, and the public sector
- Guide market segmentation, commercial packaging, and go-to-market activation to ensure scalable adoption and impact
- Support revenue forecasting and deliver investor-grade value articulation for data monetization initiatives
Governance, Policy, and Regulatory Alignment
- Standardize Group and OpCo data governance policies to enable scalable, compliant commercialization of data assets
- Institutionalize Responsible AI principles across all data products and services to ensure ethical innovation
- Ensure full compliance with global and local data privacy regulations across the data portfolio
- Work with legal, risk, and information security teams to uphold best-in-class standards in data governance, ethical usage, and customer trust
Business Value Realisation and Incubation Success Metrics
- Establish and monitor ROI and KPI dashboards to track the impact of commercial data transformation
- Track and continuously optimize monetization success metrics, including revenue uplift, cost avoidance, and cross-sell impact and leverage insights to refine and enhance the business
- Align execution milestones with structured phase checkpoints such as pipeline activation, partner onboarding, and delivery traction to ensure disciplined progress tracking
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business, Engineering, or related field
- Master’s degree in Data Strategy, Business Administration, A.I., Digital Transformation, or a related field
- Additional certifications in AI, Innovation Management, or Data Commercialisation are advantageous
Experience:
- Atleast 15+ years in data analytics, strategy, and commercial leadership roles, with 5+ years at Executive or CDO-level
- Demonstrated success in launching or scaling monetisation of data / digital assets. Strong P&L ownership and clear ability to build from the ground up
- Background in telco, fintech, digital platforms, or strategy advisory with exposure to digital transformation and data commercialisation
- Proven experience in data monetization, solution selling, product leadership, and technical pre-sales—preferably across emerging markets. Experience successfully navigating the B2B sales cycle
- Strong understanding of B2B data use cases, platform architecture, API ecosystems, and data privacy frameworks
- Exceptional Cross-functional leadership in multi-country contexts; Strong client engagement and pre-sales enablement capability
