Job Description

  • This role will report to the Senior Financial Accountant within the UT Manco Team in Old Mutual Wealth’s Finance team. It requires an individual with a passion for financial management, driving reporting timelines of financial results and execution on the business plan, while managing governance and compliance at an operational level.
  • This position is individually accountable for achieving results through others, over periods of three months to one year.  
  • This role would deliver support to the senior financial accountant in the Unit Trust Companies. You will be jointly responsible for delivering timeous and accurate accounting on an ongoing basis to support effective decision making.
  • It includes month-end processing, fee calculations, quarterly Group reporting submissions, regulatory reporting, supporting interim and final audits. This role involves collaboration and engagement across various functional teams.

Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:

Financial Policies, Guidelines, and Protocols

  • Create a plan to deliver and review financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.
  • Strong collaboration skills to discuss and propose solutions with various members of the broader business and finance team.

Financial Management and Control

  • Maintaining and seeking to improve the financial control environment.

Financial Information Systems

  • Support the implementation of financial systems process changes and enhancements; ensure all changes are effectively implemented.

Data Collection and Analysis

  • Provides data and insight into preparation of the Business Plan.
  • Ability to work with complex financial data sets and provide insights and recommendations.

Operational Compliance

  • Supporting the Senior Financial Accountant on the delivery of reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for Financial Reporting activities which includes fee income and fee expense calculations.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for management.
  • Review, analyse, explain monthly movements for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. Discrepancies are investigated, followed up and corrected. New or changes to funds are understood and accounted for accurately.
  • Tax: preparation of Vat and tax information for submission to the Group Tax team, regulatory VAT and tax submission
  • Independently responsible of various monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Completion / assistance with adhoc tasks, providing input into adhoc projects or analysis, directly within or outside of the broader business or Finance team.
  • Generates internal management reports.
  • Responsibility for audit liaisons which contribute to timeous audit sign off.
  • Provides training and support to junior staff members, to ensure accurate and timely reporting and effective operational delivery.

Performance Management

  • Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization’s performance management systems to improve personal performance.
  • Manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project/account team members and hold people accountable for achieving them, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives.
  • Organizational Capability Building
  • Use the organization’s formal development framework to identify the team’s individual development needs.
  • Plan and implement actions to build their capabilities.
  • Provide training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.

Budgeting

  • Deliver a budget for an area of the organization or conduct complex analyses on budget progress in other areas of the organization.
  • These responsibilities offer an overview of the role and are not confined or restricted solely to what is listed.

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • BCom (Acc) or similar, with articles is desirable.
  • 4-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Financial Services essential, with background to asset management experience preferred.
  • Intermediate Excel skills required, PowerBi skills preferred.
  • Oracle and HFM experience are desirable.
  • Ability to work with complex financial data sets.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative-taking and demonstrable high standards of achievement.
  • Strong people skills and ability to work in diverse teams as well as independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deliveries with tight deadlines.
