Job Description
- RCL Foods is recruiting for a driven, highly energized and analytical Financial Accountant within the baking business unit.
- The suitable candidate will be responsible to coordinate and supervise the monthly financial reporting requirements. - This role will be based in Pietermaritzburg and reporting to the Financial Manager.

Minimum Requirements
Education and Qualification
- Qualified CA or a BCOM Accounting degree with SAICA articles as a minimum
Experience and Training
- Minimum 3-5 years post articles working experience
- Extensive experience with the IFRS standards as well as Auditing standards
- JDE experience preferable
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and General Ledger Maintenance
- Prepare month-end reporting packs (both management accounts and reporting pack to Group).
- Ensure all finance activities are completed within the agreed deadlines.
- Prepare General Ledger reconciliations monthly which entail backup schedules in support of all Balance Sheet Accounts (joint responsibility with reconciliation controller)
- Following up of queries/reconciling items ensuring that no significant items remain on the reconciliations when closing the General Ledger.
- Consolidate, review and sign off all staff debtor accounts.
- Provide assistance and resolution for all branch finance related issues.
- Process monthly standing journals, and review and post journals raised by the team.
- Review and post all branch accruals
- Capture own journal and accrual entries when required, including routine monthly transactions, corrections, and provisions, ensuring correct account allocations.
- Oversee the monthly close-off of the finance submodules
- Review the sub-accounts prior to month end close, to ensure all postings have been done and that clearing has been performed.
- Review monthly bank reconciliation and investigate reconciling items.
- Review and all petty cash slips for relevant approval, valid supporting documentation and correct accounting and tax treatment and post.
- Prepare monthly intercompany Group confirmations reconciliation and follow up/clear variances.
- Assist commercial teams with GL analyses where required
- Assist with the ongoing efforts to maintain and implement internal controls at all sites
- Perform “value-add” responsibilities as agreed between Financial Manager and Financial Executive.
- Assess the IFRS implications for new financial transactions implemented and prepare the accounting and tax entries for these transactions.
- Preparation of all IFRS compliant schedules and processing of journals e.g IFRS 16 and IFRS 9 entries and schedules.
- Oversee the PPE/fixed assets of the sites such as depreciation and maintenance of the fixed asset registers including capex.
- Liaise with Internal and external audit and ensure all deliverables are submitted.
- Assist with the drafting of annual financial statements as well as CIPC compliance
Tax Compliance
- Complete the South African VAT reconciliation and return on a monthly basis.
- Assist with SAR’s queries on VAT return submissions
- Apply for the annual renewal of tax clearance certificates and letters of good standing for the company.
- Ensure that tax schedules are prepared accurately and timeously as per month end timetable and submitted for review to Financial Manager.
Treasury Control
- Check and release EFT payment runs.
- Create and maintain user profiles for Bank.
- Review and verify all Business Online payments, local and foreign.
- Prepare bi-monthly cash flow forecasts to be submitted to group and investigate significant variance between actuals and forecast.

- CA (SA) or similar qualification
Financial Statement
- Prepares financial statements and reports needed to comply with regulatory requirements.
Budget and forecast
- To co-ordinate and plan the head office annual budget as well as forecasts within the agreed business objectives to measure the head office annual financial performance.
- To compile the monthly head office review reports, clearly indicating deviations to targets and to investigate appropriate actions required to remedy these deviations.
