Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively managing the Receivables debt book across various customer segments, ensuring timely debt collection against set targets, handling legal handovers to mitigate financial risks, and overseeing supplier payments, including authors, to safeguard business interests
  • Strive to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of (documented) processes as well as systems across the business
  • Implement best practice operational processes, ensuring compliance with legislation and the company’s policies
  • Maintain strong relations with internal and key external customers, including educational departments, third party agents; and key external suppliers
  • Lead, motivate and develop a customer focused team that delivers an efficient, effective and accurate service
  • Work collaboratively, innovatively and supportively with peers in the business
  • Work with colleagues across the business to drive excellence, profitable revenue growth and achievement of planned financial targets
  • Manage an effective internal control framework and implement corrective measures where necessary
  • Own and monitor compliance with the statutory regulations including VAT and the Income Tax Act, and any other legislation that is relevant, e.g. POPI, B-BBEE data required for accreditation, etc
  • Implement effective customer credit control to minimize any adverse financial impact
  • Manage the process of monthly supplier reconciliations from subsidiary ledger to supplier statement, including resolution of all unresolved items, as well as customer accounts, as and when required
  • Manage the process of engagement with suppliers, including authors, and ensure that contractual payments are made within agreed timelines
  • Develop the necessary reporting capability to ensure that the business is managed effectively from a cash flow perspective, including but not limited to, the monitoring of overdue customer amounts and debt collections, and payment of amounts due to suppliers within agreed credit terms
  • Define the performance criteria and develop the necessary reporting capability to measure performance
  • Be part of a positive and collaborative team environment by setting own goals and regularly reviewing the achievement of own goals

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree or equivalent or higher tertiary education or at least 4 years’ experience in a similar operational environment
  • Chartered Accountant CA (SA) (advantageous)

Experience Requirements

  • Experience working in both product and service-based organisations; ideally some of this in education, including exposure to a digital product environment
  • Experience working with Bookmaster (advantageous)
  • Rounded people management (up to 7 team members)
  • Sound communication and written skills
  • Sound knowledge and application of legislation such as the Consumer Protection Act, Companies Act, POPI, etc.
  • Can demonstrate a successful track record
