RESPONSIBILITIES:
These duties and functions include, but not limited to:
- Responsible for the daily routine work in the Histopathology Laboratory in order to achieve efficient and cost-effective service;
- Maintenance of all equipment;
- Ensure processing, embedding and cutting of samples received from various laboratories;
- Reagent preparation and staining for both the Histopathology and the Immunohistochemistry laboratories;
- Ensure that all laboratory system protocols, e.g. safety and quality details are adhered to;
- Trouble shooting and reporting all malfunctions, non-conformances and incidents;
- Maintain and manage quality assurance; and
- Administrative duties linked to the post.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- National Diploma in Veterinary Technology;
- Three years’ experience performing Histotechniques (Microtomy, tissue processing and HistoStains);
- Registration with South African Veterinary Council;
- Advanced knowledge of Histotechniques; and
- Competent in techniques practised in a histopathology laboratory.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Proficient computer skills;
- Applicable professional communication and language skills, both written and verbal;
- Ability to work under pressure without compromising detail and accuracy;
- Ability to actively participate as a member of a team to move toward the completion of goals;
- Ability to accomplishes tasks and processes accurately and completely; and
- Experience in Quality Control Programmes.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Immunohistochemistry techniques experience; and
- ISO17025 knowledge.
