  • The General Manager will report to the Group CEO.

Responsibilities will include:

  • All duties commonly expected of the Leader of a multi-billion Rand business unit
  • A Leadership role in Strategy Development and Execution
  • Commitment and Investment in the Group’s Vision & Values
  • Responsibility for the brand Image, Merchandise Mix and the “Point of View” of South Africa’s Leading Outdoor Retailer
  • Operational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Responsibility for the achievement of Budgets and Targets
  • Inspirational Leadership, Mentoring and Development of Team Members
  • Building a winning culture throughout the Division
  • Maximisation of E-Commerce and Omni Chanel opportunities
  • Maintaining and developing key relationships with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Liaison and Co-operation with other divisions within the Cape Union Mart Group of Companies, including but not limited to Old Khaki, Poetry and Travel & Safari
  • Co-operation and support for our Proudly South African Manufacturing Division, K-Way Manufacturers (Pty) Ltd, and encouragement of local sourcing and procurement.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • The ideal candidate should hold a business based undergraduate degree.
  • A postgraduate qualification such as an Honours, Masters, GDA or MBA would be highly desirable
  • The candidate should have at least 10 years retail trading experience in a senior leadership role (Leader of Leaders)
  • Experience to include planning, sourcing and procurement of clothing, footwear, or outdoor products.
  • Sound financial and IT knowledge (Preferably Oracle and PLM) is important
  • The right candidate should have good inter-personal skills and be energetic and forward thinking
  • A proven track record of success is essential
